Even a half assed spotter network and radio relay would have those liberators intercepted the entire route out.

Better luck next time! Flak brings down an attacking plane from Tarawa. The Allies are annoyed by our deep strike, and try and make us pay! I almost feel sorry for these poor buggers. Three days now until the Kido Butai finishes its upgrades. The squadrons are filling out nicely and we have even seen some upgrades in the plane types!

Here we go again! Or not, as they all rembark soon afterwards. Apparently having touched the beaches is enough for them. Rangoon comes under attack. We continue to see an uptick of base points. It looks like they still have a battleship active.

So, currently who theoretically controls Louganville? I'm not sure if we control it and the USN is invadin to take it from us, we're invading it and they're counter-invading to prevent us from taking it, or some sort of general shenanigans where no one is -sure-.

We get lucky once more. It seems that we are going to be see more raids on Rangoon. They throw more men into the grinder at Luganville. I need to get more fighters into Rabaul. That's what I like to see.

I always forget to look this up, what sort of stacking penalties do you get on fleet size? 18 ships seems like a lot

That many cap ships should probably have more than 18 escorts. I mean, Japan doesn't have them to spare, but it's hella top heavy.

So what did those refits do? More AA?
|
# ? Jul 24, 2017 22:15 |

Probably. Most of those Carriers should be dead by now, so there's not exactly a "canon" upgrade.

GOOD TIMES ON METH posted:I always forget to look this up, what sort of stacking penalties do you get on fleet size? 18 ships seems like a lot 25 is the max task force size. The stacking penalties are for having more than a set number of aircraft in the same task force. From memory I think it's 400 for Japan all war long. The penalty is reduced coordination on strikes, i.e. your aircraft are more likely to show up at the target in multiple smaller groups.

goatface posted:Probably. Most of those Carriers should be dead by now, so there's not exactly a "canon" upgrade. That depends entirely on which ships received an actual refit over just repairs, then you have some carriers belonging to a class of aircraft carriers that would later receive certain upgrades. Its logical to assume that a similar refit would take place. Similarly, this could be the first time they've gone through a refit, getting an upgrade that was planned months if not year (s) ago.

If they were accountants I think this could be considered an acceptable loss, cost of doing business and strategic downsizing.

GOOD TIMES ON METH posted:I always forget to look this up, what sort of stacking penalties do you get on fleet size? 18 ships seems like a lot For airstrikes, there's a chance to get coordination penalties if you're launching from a hex that has more than 400 carrier aircraft in it (the Allies have a lower limit of 200 at the game's start, then work their way up to 400 by 1944). For ships, the task force moves at the speed of the slowest ship, so it's in your interest to keep ship speeds as even as possible, and also as fast as possible for anyone that's going to be engaged in combat.

Grey has already outdone the Japanese High Command, at this point he's just running up score. It's odd to think of everything that's changed in my life since he started his original WitP thread. Whole thing started back in 2010-ish. Life is weird.

In the task force screen, you'll see "Moves (m/c) 8/4" in the top left, meaning it moves 8 hexes per phase at max speed and 4 at cruise speed. I forgot just how slow that one cruiser is, but 20 knots can only carry a ship six hexes per phase at max speed, so I suspect he ditched it.

The Allies continue to try and land troops at Luganville. Futility does not seem to be word they know. We trade a fighter for a Liberator, its a worthwhile trade. The Kido Butai is on its way south again! We should be in place to destroy some more Chinese troops as well.

The strike on Rabaul hits a couple of battleships. Hopefully their armour can absorb a couple of 500lb bombs. One of our subs tries to take on a destroyer, but it backfires on them. We see a Chinese force that holds against our attack! This is a rarity! I'm moving a lot of goods around in the background. The battleships are fine folks!
