I'm been recommended this book more than once, and I honestly had no interest in reading it based off of a loose summary. I'm glad to see my thoughts on it were correct. Who could read this poo poo?

Will Wheaton could, and did. I made the grave error of starting the audiobook knowing nothing at all about the book other than a bunch of recommendations starting a road trip. I didn't make it very long. I don't even hate Will Wheaton or anything but he references his own loving self because the book is that awful and I'm sure someone thought that was like poetry. Him and some other nerd icon are president of the world or something.

Age of Ultron has some serious problems but Civil War was worse, i think. All of the cramming in of MCU bullshit was really egregious in that movie. Why is Antman in the movie? Why is Spiderman in the movie?

i actually liked the MCU as it was starting out. A few movies werent good but the ones I liked I really liked: the first Iron Man, the first captain america, the first Avengers, Iron Man 3, Winter Soldier, and Guardians of the Galaxy were all good. But then in 2015 it started going downhill for me. Age of Ultron was okay but I didnt enjoy it as much as the first Avengers, AntMan had some funny stuff but I dont care to see it ever again. Then in 2016 Civil War came out and wow, that was a serious drop in quality. Then Doctor strange comes out and I didnt even bother to see it and still havent.

I saw Guardians of the galaxy volume 2 and liked it, and Thor Ragnarok looks like pulpy Kirbyish fun, so there's hope that Marvel can turn this around. They just got to let their individual movies be their own thing. Stop cramming in all these superheroes that dont belong.

I'm mystified by the people who say Winter Soldier is the best Captain America movie and even more mystified by the people who say Civil War was. I forgot Civil War was even supposed to be a Captain America movie half-way through watching it, I think I just defaulted to thinking it was an Avengers movie.

drat just finished Hellboy II and I've never seen it before. It's almost like a proto-Guardians of the Galaxy, really good, they should let Guillermo do the next GotG.

Hellboy II is loving awesome. Turning Jeffrey Tambor into the whipping boy instead of a bossy authority figure is great, and Seth McFarlane's turn as Klaus is one of his best comedic roles. It's pretty much what every urban fantasy aspires to be.

I recently rewatched The Mask of Zorro. I miss good swashbuckler films after the Pirates movies drove the genre off the deep end.

I don't know what it is but I find Ready Player One more offensive than something like Fifty Shades of Grey, which is weird because that book is actively harmful to public perceptions of fetish lifestyles, while RP1 is just pathetic.

I haven't read Fifty Shades of Grey, but I have to imagine it doesn't have a page-long summary of all of the various pornos Christian Grey has watched, which genres he's most well versed in, and which pornstars from which era he'd most like to gently caress.

Captain America Winter soldier is definitely the best Cap movie except for maybe the ending with Bucky because he is written terribly. Refield just comes in and steals the movie whenever he shows up.

The last season of Agents of Shield makes Avengers 2 suck even more poo poo. Civil War is even worse as it doesn't have any sort of cohesive message and I just found the airport fight a pointless unexciting drag.

My favorite Ready Player One/Ernest Cline anecdote is during the ET Atari documentary, the film diverges from he main topic to include him for some reason. He shows up in a DeLorean and his whole take on the thing is "this is like if Indiana Jones teamed up with Doc Brown to go on a treasure hunt in Westeros".

He cannot turn it off. He is an absurd troper robot and he cannot turn it off.

Not to mention that he was big on how the game was actually some kind of "lost classic" instead of a nearly-unplayable piece of poo poo.

Then there's the absolute hell that is his first film: Fanboys. Watch the clip on the film's IMDB page, ye mighty, and despair.

I can't believe I've never heard of how terrible that Ready Player One book is until now. I was looking through the selected quotes on goodreads and my nose started bleeding.

quote:

“You’re evil, you know that?” I said.
She grinned and shook her head. “Chaotic Neutral, sugar.”

quote:

“Dilettantes,’ Art3mis said. ‘It’s their own fault for not knowing all the Schoolhouse Rock! lyrics by heart.”

quote:

“Widespread famine, poverty, and disease. Half a dozen wars. You know: “dogs and cats living together … mass hysteria!”
