So the motion to proceed passed purely because McCain, the "moderate" "maverick" Republican, decided to drag himself out of his hospital bed while suffering terminal cancer purely in order to destroy what little healthcare system the US has. He knows full well that it's wrong, he doesn't have to care about money or re-election, and the bill is widely loathed so he sure as hell isn't doing it for his legacy. As far as I can tell, he just genuinely wants to do as much harm as possible. It's starting to feel like the reason Republicans keep surprising me is that on some level, I model them as fellow human beings with souls.
