Don't worry. Glioblastomas are one of the worst kinds of cancer you could have. They are extremely aggressive, and frequently recur even after surgery and chemo. Not only that, but the prognosis is terrible. In most cases, by the time the tumor is identified the patient has only two or three years to live. And finally, glioblastomas completely consume the ability of those they afflict to think rationally or to remember basic facts.

Paul is a yes on the MTP so they almost certainly have it. The question is what they pass, if anything. A skinny repeal is the big thing being floated now, that pretty much just kills the individual and employer mandates and the device tax. I can't see how that's doable with 50 votes, and they're using the 60-vote threshold as an excuse to not do the full Cruz-amended BCRA so they're not exactly planning to run roughshod over the parliamentarian, so who knows? It seems like the plan is "kick something, anything over to the conference committee and fix it there" but the pressure on House to just pass the Senate's bill will be huge. Upside is that this leaves Medicaid untouched. Downside is that it will absolutely death spiral the market.

the only way MTP fails is if Collins, Murkowski and Capito are the noes. Of course, there's 0 chance Paul votes for the final product, so I think the MTP is no guarantee of final passage, but it's a huge step in the wrong direction

Heller could easily be a no, but is busy trying to vanish entirely and may just lock himself in a broom closet to miss the vote.

And he'll still be coming to Congress to vote. I mean, look at Strom Thurmond -- he was 93 and completely unaware of anything going on around him and he was still wheeling into Congress to vote the way his Republican buddies told him to.

Even their new plan seems to be to run roughshod over the rules.

Their new plan seems to be to pass just any bill and then go to conference with the House. Then the conference can come up with a full bill that both sides pass.

The problem with this is that the Senate currently has a rule to prevent new matter from being inserted in conference reports. Any bill that comes out of conference has to be made entirely out of provisions in the original House or Senate bill. If anything else has been added, any Senator can make a point of order that material has been added. The Senate can waive the point of order but only by getting 60 votes to disregard.

McConnell is going to try to pretend that it doesn't matter what they pass, but it matters in a very serious way unless they're prepared to pull out the Nuclear Option.

McCain should really resign after this. He's probably compos mentis enough that he's voting to repeal the ACA due to his own evil political views, but in 6 months he'll be essentially senile and incapable of making meaningful decisions.

How fast can they get a new person in? I assume if McCain resigns and names a successor Arizona's Republican governor would appoint that person, could they start the next day or are there formalities that delay things?

It won't make anything "better" for Democrats, though, because he's in a deep red state with a Republican governor appointing his replacement, and his successor is likely to be even more right wing than he is, the way the party is going. But he should still retire. His diagnosis is not consistent with being able to make decisions well, even if the treatment works he's going to have a chunk of his brain removed.
