With that said, I had a thought earlier in the week that it would be fun if offer sheets remained anonymous up to the point where the player switched teams. I.E Team A could send an offer sheet for a player on Team B without Team B (or anyone aside from Team A, the player in question and the league) knowing who it was from. Team B could match the offer, and Team A would never be revealed as the one who did it. If Team B walked away, the player would join Team A. It would encourage more underhanded tactics from teams and add a bit of intrigue to the duller summer months. Sadly we all know the league doesn't actually want them sent out because they drive player salaries up.

The latter might be worth it to the Red Wings, but it's also a lot of money, and it would gently caress up a GM's bridge contract scheme. i.e. if the Rangers offer-sheeted AA for 5x4m, then when Vesey is up for a contract, that's his ask. It could work like the Hjalmarsson offer sheet and signing Niemi, because holy poo poo, the Red Wings cap situation.
