Their stated goals are to expose NGOs working together with smugglers, sink empty smuggler ships and alarm the North African coastguards about immigrant boats before any NGO ships can reach them.

What that means is that they plan to harass NGO ships Greenspeace style, film it and then put that as monetized content on youtube. These Nazi media channels are usually extremely shady, so the central goal is probably still going to be to steal as much donation money as possible while not alienating their fanbase too much.

So you are saying they were evil and greedy, and that was it? A business opportunity? Youtube would have de-monetized in a jiffy, believe me sir.

And to be realisic, if they wanted money and had any business acumen, they should have just joined the NGO-smuggler operation of ferrying people from Libyan coast to Italy.

lovely career planning.

They are going to sink jackshit. IRC they raised something like $50k, ten times less than any generic anime dating sim makes on kickstarter in a day. Their youtube/patreon/whatever channels probably make around $10k a year. This is all amateur league. They are not gonna raid the Libyan coast and place C4 charges on smuggler boats or something, certainly not with their off-brand Mall cop relative they hired as a "mercenary".

Take people lost on sea onboard and then take them to the nearest port. Problem was that they considered it to be in Libya, unlike everyone else who agreed that it's Berlin.

Jews fleeing the Holocaust are not in any way comparable to North Africans, who don't flee genocide but want to enjoy the social welfare systems of Northern Europe.
Actually most boat people currently transported to the EU through the chain of smugglers and NGOs stay in Italy and very few of them are granted official refugee status. Austria has already plans in place to close the borders should Italy attempt to let the illegal immigrants just go north.

That didn't used to be the case though, back in the day everyone was "registered" (not) and just let go with the advice to leave the country. Nobody gave a poo poo where. And many end up in Berlin or the Nordic states.

But otherwise, it's a good business, didn't the governor of Palermo recently invite everyone? It was found out (anyone can check this from several main stream sources in google) that it was actually the mafia and NGOs who were rolling up dollars and euros from government grants along with the smuggling and migrant business, running asylum centers where people were fed rancid chicken while the mafiosos were buying golden toilets and hiding cash in their houses.

How humanitarian.

That's a photoshopped image of Dutch politician Emile Roemer (Dutch URL), leader of the Socialist Party. It was created by rich people magazine Quote who feared he would take away all their money if he would become prime minister after this year's elections (almost literal quote: "if he becomes PM, we will be moving to Switzerland").

Actually I'm pretty sure that was from last election 4 years ago. This year IIRC though the SP decided to lean into it and released their own photo of Roemer with a chainsaw.

While I fully support the use of cutting instruments on the rich, I believe we can find a cheaper, more efficient solution.

As long as I am here, here is a charming Portuguese news article: A legal case of a 50-plus year old woman who got some botched surgery that made her near incapable of having sex (among a series of other medical problems) was appealed all the way to the highest court who ended up reducing her entitled 172.000 Euro compensation to 60.000 under the rationale that "for women over 50, sex is not as important". This got them condemned by the European Human Rights Court.

The somewhat ignored kicker that truly makes this Portugal.txt? This surgery was performed in 1995. Our blindingly fast justice system, everyone!

The dishonest Germans (Politico headline)

quote:

The next time a German minister lectures another member of the European Union about the need to obey the rules, the target of the criticism might be forgiven for turning the tables.

The country that loves to hector others on the evils of moral hazard, to demand strict enforcement of EU fiscal rules and to depict Southern European countries as endemically corrupt, is mired in a cesspit. Scandal has struck Germany’s vaunted automobile industry, its largest engineering giant and its biggest bank — and there’s more than a suspicion that Berlin has long turned a blind eye.

Germany may be no cleaner or dirtier than other European countries. But it’s certainly more self-righteous. And so it’s hard to avoid a shiver of Schadenfreude at the mounting reports of unsavory — and possibly illegal — behavior by some of its biggest business brands.

The latest affair to tarnish the reputation of Deutschland AG — Germany Inc. — as the cozy relationship between business and politics is often called, involves more than two decades of reported collusion among the top five German automobile companies, revealed by Der Spiegel magazine.

German and EU cartel authorities are investigating whether Mercedes-Benz owner Daimler, Volkswagen, BMW, Porsche and Audi held regular secret meetings to discuss technical standards, suppliers and pricing, to the detriment of foreign competitors.

According to the report, it was Volkswagen, desperate to clean up its act and avoid further legal damage after being caught systematically cheating on pollution emissions tests in the United States, that blew the whistle to the German Federal Cartel Office. Since then, reports have said Daimler beat VW to the whistleblowing punch.

It’s not just Germany’s vaunted automobile industry that’s been looking shady lately.
The probe into suspected anti-competitive behavior was hushed up for a year until Der Spiegel published its scoop. BMW denied illegal behavior. The other manufacturers have not commented, and industry association VDA said it was not involved.

Companies found guilty of violating EU cartel rules face fines of up to 10 percent of their worldwide turnover. However, the first participant to denounce an illicit anti-competitive conspiracy is exempted from paying a penalty.

For example, the two big German truckmakers — MAN and Daimler — were among five companies involved in a price-fixing cartel on which the European Commission imposed €2.93 billion in fines last year. MAN was not fined because it revealed the existence of the cartel in 2011.

All cars suck and unless you absolutely need one try to live your life without it.

I'm a huge fan of the blablacar app these days; there's pretty much always rides to and from the major EU cities and centres, and if you can combine it with public transport there's almost no place you can't reach except the remote countryside.

Also, for example in Lisbon there's already Citydrive and eCooltra. I still haven't used either but it seems like a model that'll work, especially with electric bikes.
