So is Adderall still a permanently disqualifying factor for military service? I thought I heard about that being changed at some point, but I can't recall from where.

Even if every single transgender service member was given top of the line reassignment surgery and the best hormone therapy available, and hell maybe even a free car while we're at it, what minuscule percentage of the total DOD budget would that comprise?

The opponents in Congress (who failed, which is why Trump did this) are using totally bogus numbers

quote:

To justify that blatantly discriminatory act, Hartzler has seemingly invented the statistic that trans military service will cost the military $1.35 billion over the first ten years. Her office has refused to respond to multiple ThinkProgress requests for the source of that figure, which is 16 times higher than the highest estimates the RAND Corporation calculated. The Family Research Council, an anti-LGBTQ hate group, has since estimated figures even higher.

Expected costs per RAND of normal transgender medical costs (not your example) is $2.4-8.4m per year.

He's more than made up for that in the "rent" he's charged the DOD, State Department, and even his own campaign.

What's really weird is that I haven't seen a single Republican back up Trump's decision on this. I've seen statements from McCain, Hatch, and Ernst and they're all saying "everyone who is able bodied should be allowed to serve".

I would've expected some support coming from them and instead he's getting absolutely zero, even from the hardcore conservative Senators. I highly doubt that leads to anything concrete past mythical concern, but it's still really odd. I'm wondering if this will get covered in the yearly National Defense Authorization Act debate currently ongoing.

Edit: Senator Combover King Shelby too.
