also gonna say looks fake as hell.

What gets me is that if I wanted to fake a letter from a kid, I would go to a real kid and dictate to them. And we know the WH staff has kids on hand, isn't that Shucks whole schtick?

Thats understandable. News operates on simple sound bites and binary answers. We can usually spot weasel words and careful phrasing like "I am a no on MTP for the full repeal", which CNN might excitedly yell means victory, but we see that as "well ok, that plan looks dead. I wonder what the turtle will come up with next?"

Considering that they still have yet to update that it's a no on CNN which we've know for a good 15 minutes now. Don't want to stop those refresh clicks just yet I guess. They'll probably update at like 5PM EST at this rate

The kid trolled my Facebook too. Which put me in a weird place between telling a 13 year old to gently caress off, blocking a family member, or just telling his mom. Which I did, because my sister in law isn't awful, and it was the least lovely option that wouldn't make Thanksgiving any more awkward than it was going to be already.

Not that it really matters one way or the other—nor do I believe this administration is really capable of intentionally setting up a multi-step trap for its opponents—but if Dylan does turn out to be a real kid with special needs, it will sure lead to a lot of hand-wringing from the right about how much liberals hate those with learning disabilities.

for comparison, here's some handwriting by some real eight year olds I used to work with. They were all english language learners at title 1 schools in East Austin and came from underprivileged backgrounds. Immigrant children gonna take our reasonably OK penmenship among children jobs!! :byodood: (there are some spelling errors here too, but in these kids' defense, they never had formal schooling in their native language!)

I think this is the exact kind of "return to procedural norms" that McCain says he's for, so expect he'll be against this. Collins and Murkowski might be down? But I don't know who their third would be.

So lost in all the news was mention that Sessions might start an investigation into all the Whitehouse leaks: http://www.foxnews.com/politics/2017/07/26/sessions-to-announce-investigations-into-intelligence-leaks-source.html Part of me wonders is this the start of a war between the DoJ and Whitehouse? Trump refuses to fire Sessions because of the optics and his weak will. Sessions refuses to step down probably out of obstinance and knowledge his political career is over unless he can last longer than Trump. Trump fires daily missives at Sessions trying to get him to quit. Sessions starts an investigation to target the leakers in the Whitehouse and goes straight for Kushner, Bannon, etc. Perhaps he can do enough damage to get Kushner removed or at least the security clearance completely stripped. God knows how hobbled a Whitehouse without Kushner would be--just Trump sitting in the oval office watching Fox news and picking his nose all day I guess. It's going to be an interesting next few weeks.

If that letter was written by an actual child I feel really bad for him. When I was 9 I was in the fifth grade, wrote in (readable!) cursive and knew how to spell difficult words like "money" and "shape."

e: if it's an actual child with a learning disability though, he gets an A for effort.

oh. Well, this may not be all that exciting if it passes then. In fact, it might be expected to pass as part of the process to get to skinny repeal.

Motion to commit usually means "get this loving bill outta here and send it back to the committee that drew up this crap", but maybe not in this case.

It sends it to the committee for three days with instructions to remove the medicaid language.

Realistically doing so doesn't actually do much to the bill, because it's stripping the house language no one likes, but removing it from the Senate floor is not something I expect the Republicans to go for.

Yeah, this is going to be straight party line.

I don't know that it really matters. I think the most likely option is that it IS real and Trump is so desperate for positive adulation that he made ShuckS read it at a press conference like a proud Good Boy getting his drawing of a house and a nice bright sun on the refrigerator.

I used to tell people I liked Rush Limbaugh when I was like 13 and said I was a dittohead because it made conservative adults pleased and I had no clue what he was even about. Kids don't understand Trump and why he's bad, he's just a thing adults talk about.
