I know he's old as time, but gotta think there should be decent interest in Markov for the right price. Had the stars saved a bit of cap spaced this offseason, I'd have loved to see Nill throw a couple mil his way.

 One of these guys was worth signing to a 5 year, $4.625 mil AAV deal. The other was refused a 1 year, $6 mil deal despite having $8.4 mil in cap space. Can you figure out which is which? Alzner's on the left, Markov's on the right.

So he's perfectly serviceable, better than at least half their current crop, and willing to sign for one year. Oh, and they have the cap space and he put up good, consistent numbers. And he's been a hab for life and is being forced to retire. That's impressively dumb and mean.

In other views, I wonder how Shipachyov and Dadonov will really do in the NHL. When the Habs crash out of the playoffs in the first round again this year, I can't wait to see the Bergevin effigy's. He's gone from "bargain bin Bergie" to "holy poo poo this guy doesn't know what he's doing" in the space of 12 months, which is hilarious because the best thing he ever did for the Habs was fire Therrien to hire Julien - now it looks like he only did that because Molson was on the warpath for someone's head. Drouin is gonna have to be mighty loving good to make the Habs watchable this year.
