Just found some dudes all quality 10 tungsten/aluminium/steel autism boat unattended and escorted it back to my shipyard to strip it down for parts. I left him the frame with his reviver and a tin atlas core floating around for him to hopefully revive on when he logs back in. Game is good. Wouldn't mind a content patch though.

That's the best kind of heist. Why wouldn't you just remove his reviver and take the boat for yourself though?

I already have a nice boat and having him revive to a stripped down frame seemed more numerous basically. I did keep a couple of his engines which had good stats though.

I'm glad they added those later, so that now there's far more standard islands and the trapped islands will be in the minority.

I don't get the boohooing about them adding more interesting aspects for island exploration. Landing and clicking on the same old garbage cans and chests right out in the open with no complexity or danger (beyond rear end in a top hat mantas) is dull as everlasting poo poo.

Besides, currently the island creator is loads more fun than the game itself. Hopefully I can cause other goons some pain in my designs. Win/Win.

Because the current combat of bugs bumping you or whatever is super janky and unfun, and a laser turret that 1-shots you seems just about as bad.

lovely biome-locked rewards are more the problem than the islands themselves. The alphas did it better.

You are voicing your opinion about things that are not even in the beta yet, much less tested. Feel free to voice your opinion as loudly as you like.

As it stands, there is virtually nothing of substance that sets one island apart from another.

They should also bring back specific metals for islands, where players would favor one island over another and sectors had their own hotspots

If the turrets are like other intensive gameplay assets, there's going to be a limit on how many you can stick on an island.

Fields of spikes might be a thing though.

That's never going to change because everyone has the same set of tools and 90% of the people who will make the islands will be garbage at making islands.

They only add like the top 10% of islands to the game though. Most of those seem pretty unique to me.

I haven't played this test, but every time they update the creator they seem to screw something up with old islands, so the glitchy ones are probably older islands that the creator never updated.

I've got 2 islands in the game and I still haven't fixed them from the last databank update. Hopefully on release they'll do another pass at approving what islands get in.

nah i mean like, i've seen an island that is literally just heaps of poorly coordinated assets glommed together, it looks ugly as gently caress

the creator is actually really good at setpieces from what i've seen, they just get lazy with the other 95% of the island

Trust me, I cannot fathom how some islands made it through screening. I guess they really did not have a very large pool to choose from of any quality.

Still, more option/tools/elements are a good thing. At the very least in the testing phase to see what works and what doesn't.

Man I just went back to check on my first island, and some update screwed up all the grass on it too. I spent ages placing all those bits of grass and weeds and stuff to look nice, now half of them are gone and the rest look different. I hope that new grass painting tool will make up for it.

So I found a quiet little cave complex with an opening to the outside big enough to allow me to build a ship in there and fly it out. Was pretty cool being able to build in relative safety. Threw together a new ship as I was getting tired of my old design and wanted a something smaller for just running around T4 in, pretty pleased with how she came out (definitely has something of an X-Wing vibe).

Out of interest, has anyone gathered any data on which wood types are best for engine propellers and cannon ammo loaders? All the charts I've found on materials only mention metal.

I did a little testing on wood. The actual differences seem very small so just go with hemlock for weight. And if you have comparable metal options use them instead cause the metal bonuses dwarf the wood bonuses.

How does it handle turning-wise, or do you bank when need be?
Cannot wait till we can have wired cannons that (hopefully) we can keybind.

I would be scared to take that out without a sail, being manabait.

Mantas can be problematic...

Turning speed was a bit slow so I've added another wing on the rear diagonal. And a rear cannon as I was feeling a bit vulnerable in the posterior. She's about 2200kg now and does about 28 knots. Just got myself in position for a solo Sandwall attempt prior to downtime, will take her across when servers come back up. Wish me luck!

Got this game after watching a bunch of streams, and man is the emergent gameplay fun. I'm really enjoying the variety of player interactions I've had too, compared to Rust.

Me and a friend had been slowly trying to get through a windwall but our dingy was just too light until we stumbled on an abandoned ship with an upgraded sky core. We scrapped the whole frame, switch cores, re-used their engines and easily made it through - then got our poo poo hosed by mantas. Cue a desperate crash landing with our sky core making GBS threads the bed just as we get over an island that looks like a giant erect dong.

We spend about an hour upgrading to metal panels, upgrading guns and engines, etc until we're happy and confident enough to set off again. Not two minutes into the flight a manta eats through a panel we forgot to repair and rips out our fuel tank, engines cut out and the shitlord manta chirps off happily, fucker. At that very moment I notice another ship a good few hundred feet below us, and maybe just within grappling distance if I sprint off, while my friend stays to watch the ship.

Meanwhile, the other player is happily minding his own business when a body flies past the port bow, hooks on, spins round the hull twice, and faceplants on to the deck. So now both of us are expecting that the other is about to shoot a bunch of lead, but instead we exchange confused pleasantries, and an hour long salvage and rescue of my friend and the stranded ship.

This game is great. :3:

Bossa posted:

-Atlas cores have gained an on-interact ability to send a pulse through the whole ship. The pulse will detach all grappling hooks and climbers, and prevent grappling or climbing for a brief period. This function has a cooldown and uses an atlas shard.
-Atlas cores and their upgrades now provide additional lift based on the materials used in their construction.
-Players can now find and craft more convenient light sources than the torch. These are equippable in your character’s gear slots, freeing her hands for other tools. Equipped gear items are toggled with T, Spacebar, and V, depending on the slot they fit in.
-Players can now freely rotate ship parts when placing them. Tapping Z will continue to rotate an object by 90 degrees, but holding Z allows the player to rotate them more precisely. Some ship parts are still restricted to certain orientations (e.g., engines and wings).
-With free-rotate implemented, the schematics for railings are finally being seeded into the world.
-Player names no longer display indiscriminately. Crewmates (and in the future, Alliance mates) will display their names when in range, but other characters will only display their names if moused over. In addition, all character names are blocked by line of sight.
-Foliage and grass now blow in the wind.

First patch with more content boys. And finally ships can protect them selfs. Gear up and lets take to the skyes ARRRRRG!!!!
