Term comes from Bede (an English monk who was a historian and elephantine pedant and lived in the 7th/8th centuries), not that they thought about race even slightly like we do back then. Also, there were at least one major Syrian auxiliary unit stationed in Britain that I can think of off hand.

it's even later than that, the first major Saxon inroads didn't begin until after the last imperial forces withdrew from Britain in 410. the saxons start showing up in the 5th century, partly due to displacement from their original territories on continental Europe by waves of other migrating groups from the East, all ultimately spurred on by the advancing Huns if PJW were really about ethnicities retaining their birthrights or w/e he'd want all Anglo-Saxons to emigrate back to Germany or the Netherlands, so that the Bretons, Welsh and Scots can restore Albion to its proper condition
