The bookhouse boys are back in town (spread the word around).

Remember that curly-haired biker that was a bookhouse boy but also was being tailed by Truman and Coop I think in the pilot? Never made sense to me.

if anyone has a boner for visual stuff like the atom bomb scene in episode 8 I cannot recommend the film Under the Skin enough — there's one scene in that movie where an alien machine does a thing and it's very much like episode 8 with the screeching orchestral music and super abstract imagery attempting to convey something incomprehensible.

I recommend this little film. It's a great bit of animation history.

by the way the best part of rewatching the original series is the early revelation that hawk big ed and truman are all part of some secret anti black lodge society thats never mentioned again. has that just been officially forgotten at this point or is it a thing still?

The Bookhouse Boys are acknowledged in a pretty major way in The Secret History, so at least Mark Frost certainly still remembers it.

The bookhouse boys weren't formed to combat the black lodge. at least that's not how they are introduced in s1

Not in exactly those terms, but protecting the town from the weird spiritual poo poo that goes down definitely seems to be their mission.

Donna was on the bike, they knew she would lead to James.
The Bookhouse boys weren't mentioned by name very much, but they were pretty clearly in action all the time.

Ends up the bookhouse boys are the ones who own the glass box building. James is just a useful idiot that makes the rest of the group look harmless.

I didn't get the impression it was about anything spiritual. Hell, Truman was the leader

As for tailing biker kid, it makes sense his first loyalty would be to James and not the bookhouse, so they tailed him instead of going straight to him probably

Truman is the one that tells Cooper about the mysterious woods-based evil surrounding the town and its inhabitants when he first learns about the Boys of the Bookhouse.

Mark frost on the twitters said that carl rodd is an original bookhouse boy.

The final scene of the series is all bookhouse boys members future and past walking off into the distance while a picture of harrys face smiles down from the heavens.

I heard that too, but I don't think it's Twin Peaks. Albert has already mentioned Twin Peaks by name in this season, so it seems weird that he wouldn't just come right out and say it. Plus, didn't Major Briggs want the coordinates too? I feel like if the coordinates were for Twin Peaks, he would have some knowledge of it.

Some people recognised the music at the end of the last episode, but confused it with the Twin Peaks theme. Turns out it's partially based on Lost Highway's Haunting & Heartbreaking:
