They're decent but building a new one is like grabbing a squaddie, it'll be underwhelming in the ensgame for sure.

Practically they're essentially a jack of all trades class (built in heavy weapon, shred, remote hacking, a melee attack) with good mobility due to built in rockets and great burst turns with Overdrive. They can theoretically slot in for most classes though they aren't as good at any one role.

They're getting some nice buffs with the expansion that should make them very good tho.

Honestly if you get all the upgrades it gives it makes them waaaaaay too good. Not that I mind since I love my robot buddies and tend to bring 2 along, but free ablative HP/close combat specialist/extra heavy weapons charge/regen etc on top of the stat boosts makes them little metal gods capable of tanking and soloing pods.

It is a good mod tho.

For the amout of resources you have to sink into them to get that that seems fair to me.

Well War of the Chosen adds fatigue while LW2 doesn't have it at all :v: yet.

Fatigue does work differently than in LW1 though since its buildup is affected by a soldier's Will stat so it isn't an automatic thing to be fatigued after every missiom.

LW2 does have infiltration which is its own really obnoxious mechanic though.

Will it show the risk of a soldier being fatigued?

And yeah infiltration sucks, I get the idea but it's heavy into micromanagement because you can easily have three or four squads "infiltrating" at any given time and have to keep track of where this soldier is and which equipment he has and which mission was that again and

I enjoyed LW2 and cheated my way through like a motherfucker and, after a hundred or so hours later, I felt I'd basically seen enough of LW2 and buggered off when FFXIV: Stormblood was released.

I will admit that this is what I did with LW1. Even with Dynamic War on, after 100 missions you still had to grind through missions not because they were fun but because you needed materials so that your whole squad could carry pulse. I used the console and gifted myself everything I needed for top-tier MEC suits and plasma.

The one thing I am concerned about reading the summary is that WotC will have more of a grind aspect to it. One thing I like about the Firaxis XCOM games is that there isn't much of a grind, the tradeoff being that late game always feels like a victory lap. It's one thing that keeps me from buying Darkest Dungeon, it looks like fun but then I watch the effects of a squad wipe because you didn't have the right squad for a boss and now you have to recruit new characters and go on dungeon crawls to outfit them with the right trinkets and while it's fun to watch a streamer go through that agony, it's not for everyone.

SPARKs feel like they fall off in the endgame since their aim doesn't scale all that well. They're great early on since they can deploy while wounded, hop onto roofs, and have poverty versions of class-specific stuff (like melee/explosions/hacking). Going deep into armour makes them decently survivable too. I definitely stopped bringing mine out when the psi lab started pooping dudes though.

My favorite is when they WRECKING BALL right through the car one of your squads was using for cover, blowing it up and dealing damage to both :argh:

Yeah, this is the big thing being fixed in War of the Chosen. They buffed their aim, and crucially are letting you add weapon mods. So that's like +17-20 aim from where they are now.

though really running around with 6 Julians is the best thing

There's nothing better than chanting "come on execution" when that repeater would mean the difference between winning and losing, and it actually works!

The next movie better not make me shave anything :(

Im running with a huge mod list, LW2 perkpack, better advent 2, metal over flesh but sparks held their own, for sure. Julian "Tower" Shen and Liberty "Democracy" Prime. Worth it just for "EMBRACE DEMOCRACY OR BE ANNIHILATED!" I load them with as much armor as i can, using Mod Anything+Grimy;'s loot mod for more armor, defense. Mobile cover, i use them as tanks are used. mobile cover for your infantry, send them up the middle and face tank with 6/7 pips of armor plus shields. Give their guns high cycle chambers from grimy's loot mod, fixes accuracy issues. Add in serial from another weapon mod for hilarious things.

Well, they still have fatigue, but they made it less BS.

Basically a fatigued soldier suffers a will penalty and has a chance of picking up negative "quirks" such as "has a chance to spend an action point reloading any time he starts a turn without full ammo." However the UI has been changed to make fatigue levels very, very clear.

Speaking of ammo, I really wish they would change autoloaders to only use their free reloads when in combat. Or change it so the free reloads are a different button than costly reload. I hate wasting autoloader charges when I don't actually need the free reload.

Had the same thing happen my first time through the mission. I'd spent two hours getting my rear end kicked, saw Julian with 100 health and six armor (a better advent and some other mod bullshit), then I one shot him with my sniper. It took me a solid minute to figure out what the gently caress happened since I missed the repeater notification.

While I've posted about it like 3 times before, Repeaters are still responsible for the moment that sold me on this game: the first Avatar I skulljacked out of a Codex ever was terrifying, jumping around the map and raising hell on a map still full of other threats, until some lucky idiot executed it.

There's a mod for that, somewhat misleadingly called Free Reload Anytime. Any soldier with an autoloader gets an additional Reload button that will use an action instead of an autoloader charge.
