Hey hey hey, so the past week was nuts, seeing as I'm, well... going on vacation for a bit. A week in Connecticut and a week in Cancun, my job is probably not thrilled but hey, whatcha gonna do, neither one was planned by me. Anyway, FUN FACT: June 20, 2011 was the date our very first video (a Sonic 1 longplay later split into parts for YouTube) was uploaded, and June 20, 2016 was the day we started the Super Sonic Let's Play in celebration of our first upload's fifth anniversary. So it felt appropriate that on that same day in 2017 (last Tuesday), we would hit the halfway mark in Sonic Adventure (3 stories completed out of 6), which is itself the midpoint game in our Sonic lineup (42nd game out of 83), so what I'm doing over this next two weeks is... taking a break. We couldn't get enough recorded and edited ahead of time, and I'm burned out like crazy, so The Super Sonic Let's Play will return on Monday, July 10 with the start of Amy's story! Weirdly enough, that same night as we celebrated six years and 3,000 subscribers with a live hangout and a game of Quiplash, we hit 40,000 views on our Michael Jackson video. Hell yeah! I was planning to release a sort of spiritual successor on the 23rd, but I think I'll keep working on it and put it up when it his 50,000. In the meantime, here is Knuckles' story. I'm amazed I got WiFi out here. First one's an annual lake cottage thing my girlfriend's parents do, tends to fall right on/around Father's Day -- other one is a big group trip to Mexico my best friend and his wife put together (we went down for his 30th birthday last spring and had a blast, apparently going during the hottest part of the year was the reasonable follow-up). I'm pumped for both (currently sitting with my feet in the water right now) but I would kinda rather have spread them out a bit.

WE'RE BACK! Sonic Adventure is no longer on hiatus, and we're getting back into the swing of things with Amy's story. We figured giving the pink character with a hammer to Lindsay would be a fun idea... it might not have been. BUT, I can say (in my opinion at least) that the Amy storyline commentary gets better as it goes. It does start a little rough though, fair warning. You probably remember Amy's story being longer because of Hedgehog Hammer. Also yeah, Amy's is super short, Big is only a few levels but they take forever, and E-102r has a bunch of levels but you blast through them because the clock is trying to kill you worse than NiGHTS.

Finally, assuming one of you has a Dreamcast you'll be suffering through Sonic Shuffle once Adventure is over (think Mario Party, only without any sense of fun or logic) so how are you going to handle that? I drat near 100%'d Sonic Shuffle, I think I'm only missing like two mini event scenarios. The biggest issue with Shuffle's multiplayer isn't the controllers, but the need for VMUs for each player. You can't see your cards on the TV screen unless you're playing single player. And they may decide to emulate anyway, in which case I don't even know if that makes VMU screens an option or not.

To be fair to the Wii version I liked that there wasn't any forced medal collecting, extra lives were permanent (which means they were only available in certain optional areas), and the final boss fight was handled a little better. A shame the rest sucks though.

Yeah, if this is the route you're going down then with the exception of Black Knight, you'll technically be playing through every game from Unleashed onward twice (I suppose if you want to break up the monotony you could play both versions simultaneously in alternating videos or something but that's up to you). But you've still got a ways to go before you even have to worry about that so you've got plenty of time to figure things out. Off the subject, but any idea yet when you plan to start your playthrough of the Kirby series back up again?

Kurieg posted:To be fair, the 3ds versions of a lot of these games are substantially different(they're basically Sonic Rush 3 and 4), meaning Unleashed is the only one where you've got "The okay version" vs "God of Waggle". You can avoid the waggle by playing with a Gamecube or Classic controller but yeah, the HD version is the superior product all things considered (not that that's saying much as that version isn't without it's own set of problems). Also they're all pretty much the same plotwise but: - Colors DS adds some optional bonus missions in every zone with cutscenes featuring the other cast members (which I think is the only work the current voice for Big has gotten in the Sonic series so far), the levels are obviously different due to being a 2D game, and it features a few new bosses including a tacked on Super Sonic boss after getting all the Chaos Emeralds. - Generations 3DS has new levels and bosses but tells basically the same story minus all the characters that aren't Sonic, Tails, Eggman and their classic counterparts. Aside from the Special Stages it's also entirely in 2D for some reason. - Lost World 3DS follows the same plot (complete with scenes ported directly from the console version) but removes several cutscenes, adds a few new Wisp powers, has the same zones as the Wii U version except the levels (which range from ok to terrible gimmick stages) and the way the boss fights work are changed entirely, and also has probably the worst Special Stages in the entire franchise (it uses gyroscope controls, which is going to be even worse for you since you'd be doing it while recording footage). Fortunately there's no extra boss that unlocks after getting the Emeralds so you're perfectly fine with just skipping them if you like (speaking of which, good luck if you're trying to go for the true endings of Sonic Advance 2 and 3, though I suppose you could always grab a save file off the internet if worst comes to worst). Larryb posted:Off the subject, but any idea yet when you plan to start your playthrough of the Kirby series back up again? Short answer is "as soon as there's time". With both Pokémon Sun & Moon and Breath of the Wild running alongside Mega Man and Sonic, there's just no room right this second for a regular fifth series (Resident Evil 7 has been running on a pretty wildly irregular schedule for a reason). After BOTW is done, we're going to be taking stock of what the plan is re: Ultra Sun & Ultra Moon vs. HeartGold & SoulSilver and re-evaluating. Odds are, Kirby will return shortly after Zelda is dormant again, later this year. After Command Mission is done, Mega Man will be winding down pretty sharply too, so between those, Kirby will have lots of room to breathe again. As for the other comments, regarding dual-version games, we'll be taking it on a case-by-case basis. Basically, we're likely to be running 2D and 3D series for almost all of them, but we'll double-check before committing to it each time. Now let's go shoot some stuff, yeah? So fun fact about alcohol and cough syrup, you gotta use the old school cough syrup, which is quasi-legal to sell nowadays since it has a mild opioid called codeine in it. You know that song "Like a G6"? Where they talk about drinking sizzurp? That's alcohol and the cough syrup mix. Good news: In addition to getting you smashed it gives you a mild high. Bad news: Cough syrup in general is actually bad for your liver and should not be taken with alcohol. So in addition to all the fun complications that come from that, codeine also induces dependency in the drinkers and you can even overdose on the stuff. And that is why I will never respect that song. Like if a friend OD'd on heroin, you'd be like "poo poo man did you hear? Harry died" "drat, how?" "OD'd on heroin apparently" "drat I didn't know he was using, that sucks" But on the other hand, "poo poo man did you hear? Harry died." "drat, how?" "He OD'd on cough syrup" "Ahahahah the dumb motherfucker" "Hahaha dude shut up it's not...aha...funny...hahaha"

So first up, here's today's new video: Part 2: "Four More Rings" https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2yv4I15BMsQ And also... that Michael Jackson video is sort of blowing up all of a sudden. I have no clue what kicked it off, but a couple weeks ago it went from getting ~150 views a day (which is already a TON by our channel's standards) to getting 200-300 reliably every day. Then last night, we got about 2,000 views over the course of six hours. And tonight we're all of a sudden getting 350 views per hour. We hit 50,000 views 16 days ago, so I put up a teaser for the follow-up video, and last night we (VERY unexpectedly) hit 60,000. By the time this thing goes up, we're gonna be at 70-75k, this is... sorta overwhelming, I gotta be honest. Exciting! And kinda scary!
