I guess this just isn't what I wanted or expected out of Twin Peaks. More than half the show doesn't even take place in the titular town. Most of the series' returning characters don't feature heavily or are just there for side bits. Dougie Coop has run his course. There's so many more interesting things they could be doing with this season. Like I said, I'd love for the final run of episodes to just come together in an amazing way and make all of this pay off, but at this point I'm pretty "eh" on the show. Whether it's Lynch trolling or not is irrelevant.

One thing I do agree on is that the show doesn't really seem like it has any target audience in mind. On the one hand it's fine for it to be a passion project, a swan song for the Twin Peaks universe made by Lynch for himself... but if it is that, it really doesn't feel much like it to me.TheMaestroso posted:So, you're upset that the show isn't an hour of nostalgia porn every week? It sounds hipsterish, but i sincerely love that i never know what each Sunday of Twin Peaks will bring. Lynch is a hilarious troll and i love every confounding second of this revival. There is nothing like it on TV and probably never will be again!

Note I'm not on the hate train, I think this ride is exactly as bizarre as I'd expect from David Lynch, and if it were more traditionally structured I'd wonder whether he'd lost his touch.

It's giving context to something that was only mentioned - once by floating Major Briggs head and again by Albert - in the first few episodes of the show without explanation. If it weren't given context, I think that you'd have something there, but that's not the case.

I thought the last two or three episodes were gaining some decent momentum finally and we were finally getting some stuff done in this show. But this episode just took the wind out of me. We get Audrey back for 10 minutes of pfffffftttttt. Lynch is just addled brain and is able to shamble together like a good 20 minutes per episode. I don't care about the ending anymore. The show just feels pretty empty and it's punctuated by little gems. The exposition was so drat bad this episode. Also no Big Ed.

Yes, referencing Phillip Jefferies and Chet Desmond by name was for the fans, but it also was not strictly for making said fans go "OHHHHHH". Sure, you can infer what it means, but remember that the only times it's been mentioned outside of Major Briggs' ominous floating head was in private between Albert and Gordon. I thought that episode was great. We had a whole bunch of stuff happen last week that was pretty goddamn intense (to be frank) and I like it when the show takes a break. I thought there was a ton of interesting poo poo happening nevertheless, though. I am bewildered at the recap that was posted, because it omits all the important parts which are the details. Charlie's silence toward Audrey after talking to Tina. Ben finally giving the key to Sheriff Truman, and then pretty much confirming that Bad Coop is Richard's father and rhapsodizing about that bike he loved that his father gave him. I found the scenes with Sarah Palmer downright chilling. Particularly when she bared her teeth at Hawk. And that fan was REALLY going, which scares the poo poo out of me and makes me think that there's some REAL bad poo poo going down in that house. Still. I also really don't know what to make of Diane emerging from behind red curtains and saying "Let's Rock" while making a sort of backwards snapping gesture with her fingers that we've seen Laura make in the Red Room, unless I am mistaken. What I assume they haven't asked Diane about yet is the ring dealing with Dougie and Janey-E (makes me wonder just how much Diane knows) and hopefully they'll get some kind of a hit when the Fuscos run Dougie's fingerprints. Anyway... Totally solid episode that I liked quite a bit. Happy to see Grace Zabriskie for the first time since the end of Episode 1 - the beef jerky that apparently set her off reminded me of the gruesome nature show she was watching then. She is always one of my favorite "Lynch regulars" because she is SO GOOD at making me feel unnerved and ill-at-ease. I think Zabriskie's scene in INLAND EMPIRE is a goddamn masterpiece and is among the best scenes in any film, period. I can't say a bad thing about an episode that deals with her. I think Lynch is actually making a bit of a satirical point placing that absurd scene with Gordon and the Gorgeous French Girl next to scenes of Graze Zabriskie being loving amazing. Remember that the supposed reason for the acrimony between Lynch and Showtime was their annoyance at his insistence on bringing back all these older female characters in starring roles - they wanted him to recast attractive women in starring roles, not bring back all these actresses in their 40s and 50s - the compromise was that he'd case attractive young actresses in NEW roles while keeping the artistic freedom to cast all the returning actresses and his regulars and so forth, and probably an increased number of episodes was a part of this agreement. So in a way I was cracking up at the final scene with these gorgeous young women in the roadhouse we have never seen before gossiping about people we've never seen before. And I don't expect them to ever come up again. I dunno about you guys, but I love being nonplussed and bewildered by television, rather than seeing what I expect to happen. that episode was garbage. it didn't even quarantine the pointless bits with just dougie so i could fast forward passed it. also that asian lady at the end is the first non-white person i can remember seeing in twin peaks (not that there's anything wrong with how homogeneous it's been, i can't imagine it's terribly unusual for that kind of town).

Considering how hosed up Audrey's current marriage is, who knows what could have happened? Not to mention we don't even know how old Richard is yet. That episode suuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuucked. It was an excuse to burn 54 minutes. I thought ep 10 was the worst, but nah, 12 takes the title. Last week was good, too, so I thought 10 was just an odd hiccup. Next week really needs to bring it back around. I still like this season overall, but hot drat this episode was the biggest troll-job by Lynch so far.

In both the original pilot and here, the town has that pre-storm swelling quality. I guess it particularly came to mind because the scenes of Sarah Palmer learning about Laura's death and the stormy shot when andy is crying over the body were close together (one after the other maybe even?)

things i enjoyed from that episode: sarah palmer's actress acting the gently caress out of her scenes; trying to piece together what was up with audrey, seeing how she seems to have become kind of unpleasant, albeit there's not a lot to go on, and wondering what weeeiiird poo poo led to her marrying a midget (but the scene went on WAAAAYYY too long), ben horne's reaction to finding out what's up with richard, which i thought was well-acted. it's hard reconciling ben this season with a rewatch of the first two seasons where he's such a poo poo as to basically be irredeemable (same with bobby - normally i'd think killing someone would leave a stain on your soul so deep there's nothing that can absolve someone, but he's seemed likable, sympathetic and respectable). things i didn't enjoy: the complete lack of progression, killing the feeling of momentum it felt like the last episode created. this outweighs anything i enjoyed by a lot.

This episode and I think 10 were both very slow and unimpressive in my opinion. But I still think that even these slow bits have relevance and we just don't have the whole picture yet (and they are certainly better than Season 2 James subplot.) People spent years afterwards discussing and theorizing on the original series, I would feel cheated if season 3 was super straightforward and tied up the story nicely. I fully hope to be rewatching this often in the years to come and noticing new things every time.

Of course this is just what online rumors say, he could have been holding out for money and not artistic freedom I guess  And yeah, I loved both this episode AND episode 10.
