Office Pig posted:As funny as it is to see Scaramucci getting booted off the island, I don't think it's a good sign that John Kelly is positioning himself as top dog in the White House, especially to the extent that he can get Trump to fire his favorite hire almost immediately. Yeah this has the vague scent of competence and the bumbling incompetence of Trump's clown car cabinet has been protecting the country from the worst of his ideas.

So do we think Kelly is going to set his sights on Bannon? I don't think he can touch the familial power center in Jared & Ivanka but Bannon is a fat ghoul.

That's what Chief of Staff is supposed to be, making sure that the White House staff are doing their jobs competently. The Mooch obviously wasn't doing so.

Kelly having such control and authority from Trump is going to piss off the other factions in the WH, and eventually Trump. The worst case scenario would have been Kelly becoming a likeable Priebus.

Democrazy posted:The Mooch was there just long enough to be a hitman on Preibus and Spicer. Getting Kelly in as Chief of Staff may actually strengthen the Trump Administration in the long run. By all accounts, he seems to be competent, and Trump doesn't hate him and take every opportunity to belittle him like he did Reince.

horse mans posted:This is a good point, and I shouldn't have oversimplified. I agree strongly that change needs to start with how we educate our citizens, too. But I think the UK government does a pretty good job of simplifying their communications so that nearly anybody can understand them. I don't think it's insurmountable. As a newly self-employed man I had to fill out my own UK tax return for the first time in 25 years last year (previously was salaried employee so taxs were deducted automatically). It was fine. Took me a couple of hours to methodically work through and double check everything, but really not that much of a hassle.

I do feel bad for his loving kid. The mom seems alright so maybe he/she will have a good upbringing, indifferent father notwithstanding. Can you imagine growing up and reaching the age where you fully learn about all this? Especially in the information age where hardly anything is lost.
