I saw one of their recent articles and there was some good reluctant complaining about how Chavez's successors (ie the spineless lackeys he handpicked) are failing to live up to the Bolivarian Revolution (by continuing to implement his policies). Plus a truckload of "both sides are bad" including allegations of phantom right wing militant groups that sound like they were copy-pasted from Telesur English.

the right wing militant groups are real tho?? i don't even support all the things maduro is doing but they're definitely real

people seem to insist those groups are the same as the civic protestors, the ones who have had triple digit fatalities at the hands of state police forces and apparently now face the threat of being disappeared by the secret police

Since like almost every one else is under investigation or with a ruined reputation the two biggest names on the next elections here are a guy who is ten times the fascist that Americans thought Trump would be and a dude who acts like a populist but his family is one of the regional oligarchies in my state

Bolsonaro is such a massive piece of poo poo and he's super popular because this country has gone incredibly fascist lately. I don't think even Trump would get away with telling a congresswoman on television that she is too ugly to rape

That phantom is an action movie actor, the bombs he dropped were smoke grenades and all evidence points to it being a false flag by Maduro

There are claims floating around about him being spec ops but his entire profile suggests he is a political officer. He was the lead in an action film about a real rescue of a hostage in 2015, his instagram feed before it went dark is all pro CICPC propanga like him going to a kids hospital to be told they have no medicine and how the filthy capitalists stole it from them, or cuddling a police dog, or shooting a target with a pistol over his shoulder using a mirror.

Gringo question: so you've mentioned the whole 'paranoid style' of politics being wholesale adopted in Brazil

is the paranoid concern (IE takeover by Maoist revolutionaries or whatev) in any way a real thing, or is this just the poo poo mist to obscure neoliberal gently caress-you-got-mine-ism

Or is this a hopeless naive question since gently caress-you-got-mine [FUGM] is the rationale for everything now

Also: it seems like Venezuela will not be able to pay its debts by the end of the summer, what happens after?

Lipstick Apathy
Wouldn't surprise me if helicopter movie dude was false flagging it, but he seems crazy enough to try and the Chavistas have really pushed Hugo's 92 coup attempt as this big moment in history, so I can see why a security officer would internalize that message and flip it around.

Can anyone summarize the changes in governance structure that have occurred in the most neutral way possible, like in a non-neolib vox explainer fashion? All I know is that:

- Executive/judiciary are pro-Maduro
- Parliament is pro-opposition
- Votes of no confidence are opposition staged
-Constituent Assembly is PSUV-staged and supposed to be a more "democratic" or "dictatorial" body depending on who you ask

I'm also trying to make sense of all the competing claims of bourgeois economic warfare vs. poor governance on the part of PSUV. I know that the oil based economy is the primary factor for Venezuela's downturn. I'm also thinking that inflation and its discontents can be a lesson for us who want to perfect "21st century socialism."

as more socialists have turned their backs on venezuela in recent years, one accusation that i hear from them is that it's always been less socialist and more peronist. i've done a little bit of reading and the comparison holds up on the surface, but i'd rather hear from someone who knows more

i dont know about brazil but in the mexican case Lopez Obrador, the leftist candidate, is actually fairly moderate. his big claim to fame is being mayor of mexico city and doing a great job, revitalizing a filthy and crime ridden city. but a lot of what he did was through poo poo like public-private partnership and other stuff like that. dude is no radical, its pure propaganda basically

Guys I'm interested in what's going on down thar, so I went to the Guardian and the Economist (I know, but when not peddling their stupid ideas they do good international reporting IMO) and well, I didn't get very far

Because the first article on the Guardian I saw about Venezuela had the ex-mayor of London Ken Livingston saying that Chavez hosed up when he didn't straight up murder the oligarchs in Venezuela

I think then I went for a bike ride
