Basically talking through the history of Rome as we can piece it together, while keeping always in the audience's mind that it's basically all bullshit from second-hand and non-historical sources but it tells us a huge amount about what Romans wanted to think their history was. It also consistently emphasizes that Rome was basically a war society glued together with mysticism and religion. Of course, I don't know much about Rome, so... I dunno, I like it?

It's generally well researched and the author, Mike Duncan, has never been above issuing corrections where he has made errors, which puts him one up on a few other amateur historians who do podcasts. It's worth noting though that the historical record proper restarts after the sack of Rome so the podcast has a more straightforward established history after that. He has another podcast he's been doing now for a few years called Revolutions, and his series on the Haitian Revolution is perhaps particularly relevant to this thread because it deals with race relations and institutional racism, as France's own revolution led to the different groups on Haiti (rich whites, poor whites, free blacks and slaves) each taking a turn as France's ally before getting stabbed in the back as some new government took power in France. Current series is the 1848 revolutions, but Haiti was my favourite.

That sounds interesting and something I will check out. Haiti gets used as an example by racists of "lol first free black country what a shithole", but the historical record of every single European power plus the US refusing to engage diplomatically with them for decades after independence, something that never happened with the United States because ~reasons~, is a good case study in exactly what can cause development issues in a nation.

Mike Duncan's Revolutions podcast is so good. The Haitian revolution is a very good starting point, and you can go right into the revolutions of South America with Bolivar from there.

Doing a quick perusal of his uploaded videos, dude seems to be a libertarian. Yet he seems to have a problem with the way a private company decides to conduct its business? Actually, it seems that shockingly enough, he supports net neutrality, so seems like there's some consistently here. But of course, I wonder if that has anything to do with the fact that he himself benefits from such a thing as a youtube content creator? Hmm...

Also, Jimmy Dore has gone batshit crazy. I mean, my god. All he loving talks about nowadays is how awful Hillary is/was and consistently making GBS threads on Democrats of all stripes. If I didn't know it was Dore, I swear to god, it would be indistinguishible with any random right-wing shock jock. As if all that's not bad enough, he also believes in the Seth Rich conspiracy.

From what I've seen, he talks about how lovely the Democrats have been in general. Also he dropped the Seth Rich stuff months ago. If you want to see stuff like that now you have to go to H A Goodman or Nico House. He does occasionally get caught up on a theory like that, but drops them fast usually with a video if evidence comes out to the contrary. Like he says, he's not a smarty pants, just and average Joe. Thing is he's an average Joe with good communication skills and as such is really good about carrying the message of how the Democratic party aren't really your friends. I'll occasionally watch him because I'm not a big fan of his comedy really, but when he talks about the Democrats and their abandonment of the base, alot of his videos do ring true. Both by the looks. They abandoned their base to chase after white collar tech sector workers and supposedly moderate Republicans, in a move that failed spectacularly. The base abandoned them because they sounded very, very out of touch with the pressures on the average American.

And the Democrats are still a thing. And they're still pushing centrist policy triangulaton policy, while only really trying to improve their messaging. I believe his last few videos about the Dems have been about that and Kamala Harris, in between stuff about Scaramucci and the failed repeal of the ACA.
