Yeah there are a few bugs still lingering that might not get fixed before tonight. The left edge thing you mentioned, enemy spawns get funky, and when legs break off the spider, there is a piece that turns into a fidget spinner on accident.

Glad you like it though!

Don't do this. Have confidence in your game! It's not perfect, but the concept is really cute and the visuals and music are solid. Unfortunately, the boot-snakes interacted with a bridge such that an unwinnable situation came up, but still! It's a cute little game and you should be proud of it.

e; to offer up some critique real quick: more air control would be nice and the armadillo enemies are pretty frustrating to deal with.

This is why we encourage everyone to do play testing before uploading. Just like the Winter jam you're allowed to resubmit up to 3 times before the deadline.

If you can't get a fix in before the deadline we'll do everything we can to match your game up with a judge that can actually run the game or try some OS level work around to get it to run.

But we won't allow re-submissions after the deadline tonight at Midnight CST in this case. And if it doesn't run for any judge you're SOL.

Yeah, what JonTerp said! It's not resubmissions, it's "I submitted well before the deadline and OH GOD THERE'S A BUG but now it's fixed gently caress let me reupload!"

So basically, your exact situation! Fix fix fix!!! Get a new build and poke me in discord in a PM or with an @ before the deadline!!!

THUNDERDOME LOSER

I played some games!

Bootleg Bernie -- My mic wasn't working when I recorded yours, which was a shame. I had a decent time punching people although I didn't realize I was supposed to be handing out flyers, recorded the whole album and only got caught once, and got walked in on while recording twice by people who didn't seem to want to walk away when I kept telling them that I was recording a thing and had no intention to pause so now they're gonna be Internet Famous. Broken promises all around.

Good sound, fun although my tendons were achy before the clicking minigame, desirable playtime. Though I tried to skip the credits toward the end by pressing Enter and that just restarted them.

Bootleg Miners -- This is the one where I realized sound wasn't working, so it also didn't have sound. I was sad that I couldn't appear to tool around with the siblings, but got a laugh out of the cart-hunt game. Though the carts only ever came up one at a time (instead of two), and I'm not sure if it went anywhere because there wasn't any obvious means to pick up the pace, so when I noticed my sound wasn't coming through on wave two I kinda wandered off.

Love the noise Gus makes when he rustles up, though.

Once again, I've ended up submitting a broken/incomplete build. This time it (should be) fully playable, but it's missing some games that are crucial to the experience, as well as a result for collecting all the gems.
I bit off more than I could chew this month, and I mistakenly thought I could finish everything by the end of the contest. But when it became clear that I wouldn't be able to get it all working (about 30 minutes before the deadline) I decided to cut out the incomplete stuff (or rather, block access to i) and submit the rest.

I'd like to fix it up with everything available and post it as a download link on its Awfuljams page. I'm assuming that's still kosher. EDIT: ok that answers that

2-Cart mode and Clay Shooting were flex goals and all the extra kickstarter money is going towards alcohol instead. In post-submission retrospect, shoulda stuck a cheat-key in that increased the round number to ramp up the speed, cause those early 2 or so rounds are molasses slow. Woops.

Who wants to play video games?
Went to get some celebratory tacos for completing baby's first game jam before posting in the thread. :toot:

It got pretty stressful towards the end, in fact, it wasn't until yesterday that you could actually play through the game from start to finish with level transitions. It became very evident this last weekend that sending out builds for play testing is very important, I was able to get a lot of good feedback about what needed to be tweaked or systems in the game people didn't understand. Overall though, it was a fun experience, designing and writing a game from scratch and it was great teaming up with two close friends for jam.

I read the readme but couldn't find any walnuts :( If every jam game is "blank mixed with Goat Simulator" I'd be in goat heaven (which is similar to hog heaven). It does need to be gamier (jumping off fireballs sounds cool, like Mr. Gimmick) but fun idea nonetheless! Also, if there's a gold star somewhere for "Not Hand-Wringing About The Release Date In This The Billionth Jam And Instead Submitting Early" you get it.

Another great Afal game! Mandatory play. And here I thought LasangaCat was going to be the cringiest thing I saw this year. Also, heck yeah, top score:

I don't know much about Batman games but I found the thin veneer of graphic replacement pretty convincing of a bootleg (where usually a main character is replaced and maybe one or two other things. But anything else is glossed over). It wasn't too long or too hard and there were a few fun jumps and things. It did get kind of laggy and the climbing controls were sticky but nothing big! Short and sweet.

A true NES game, I'd love to read a postmortem about this to see how much work went into it! That idea is gutsy and works perfect for the theme. It worked fine on Mesen (very accurate emulator) for me. Actually it reminded me more of a ZX Spectrum or C64 game but whatever. Pretty simple and buggy (as in you can get trapped if you jump over the beginning and go back) but pretty fun in a hardcore way. I recommend it!

Really nostalgic for me, though I think I was more of a Game C type of person. Pretty repetitive and needed some progression (I got to Mine 11 just in case) and of course it suffers because of hardware, but worth a look. Loved the intro and especially the flash effect!

Neat little spaceship game where you collect parts that auto-attach to your own ship. Could have been a little clearer what parts you're getting/needing and maybe a different way to emphasize getting away from the store ship. I made it 14 minutes but I think the junk penalty finally did me in! Pretty amusing to have this horrific mass while it lasted. I knew it sounded familiar, really liked the rambling sounds in "Did I Ever Tell You..?" and they worked well here, too!

More impressions coming soon!

I worked on the audio for this one! I'm used to writing music and synthesizing/creating/collecting SFX for jam games, but handling the actual implementation was a whole new ballgame (especially since I didn't know UE4's spaghetti script before this July). It was a bit stressful having to take on that role at first, but it was liberating being able to be in full control of every single element of every single sound. I didn't have to pester a programmer to go a liiiittle bit louder no not quite that loud, I could just do it myself. On top of that, it probably took anywhere from 10-20 hours of work off blastron's shoulders, which just barely made it possible for the game to come as far as it did.

It's not like being able to hook up my own audio is entirely brand new to me because I have made games on my own, but this is the first time I've had the opportunity to do it in a team, and I'm glad I did. I've enjoyed participating in these jams over the years, but this one may be the first where I've come away with an entirely new skill, even if I'm still far from proficient with it. Besides, I got to scribble funny comments in the margin, and that's always a plus.

I have a lot more to say about the work that went into this game, but I'll let people give it a try before I run my mouth too much more. Enjoy!

Yeah, originally I wanted Batman to be able to climb around corners, similar to the spiderball in Metroid, but that's hard to get right. So with the deadline in mind I had to settle for what I thought was "good enough". A bigger problem is that, when you play with a keyboard and press three keys at once, one key often won't register, so that will cause some problems at the worst possible moments. (Which means it's particularly unfortunate that I didn't get gamepad support in  and I don't suppose many people will bother using something like Xpadder for a ten minute game.)

I see you had some of the problems that I mentioned above, but you did really well, so that's a relief. The songs were mostly taken from various C64 games (credits are in the readme). For some reason, the first song of the first batman game I tried starts out with the spiderman theme :psyduck:. I took that as a sign that I was on the right track. There was some MacGyver in there too for some reason, but I didn't use that in the game.
