I have waited for years for an excuse to post this video and now have it. This video is both poignantly on-topic (for the parallels between Goonswarms defeat and Hillary's defeat) and so far up its own rear end with pseudo-intellectualism that it serves as the perfect avatar of everything the rest of the forum hates about D&D. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fVX6xaMr-YU Perhaps progressivism will rise in the wake of Trump as Goonswarm rose in the wake of its own humiliating defeat?

Someone should have sent Beck a PDF copy of that amazing goonfic GBS thread from years prior to that after he unveiled his plan to build Rapture in the middle of a lake in Montana or whatever, and by that I mean just bilk a few more million dollars out of his dwindling audience. Some of the short stories to come out of that thread were fantastic.

Prester Jane posted:Perhaps progressivism will rise in the wake of Trump as Goonswarm rose in the wake of its own humiliating defeat? Given that the current model in Goonswarm is kind of a benevolent socialist oligarchical *dictatorship*-slash-junta, I don't think this is the comparison you'd like to make as 'how good things that can spring from bad.' It works in a big gay internet spaceship game because the bad thing about democracy in vidya gamez is that you're always going to have people who take it too seriously or not seriously enough, and that disconnect is always going to be lethal.

Not trying to turn this into Democrats are a waste thread, but as a commentary as someone who watched Libertarians get laughed out of the reality based community: liberals are next. The RNC is evaporating like the Whigs and will die with the boomers as they decrease in relevance to modern culture and economy, they're literally lurching from apocalyptic threat to apocalyptic threat against an economy that contradicts their senility. Every loving year is some new insane bullshit where 115 year olds threaten to burn down the country and kill everyone for tax cuts for a group of billionaires the size of a modest high-school graduating class while coming closer and closer to demographic collapse. These are the death rattles of a party thats final years are pretty much a death cult. Outside the insane white nationalist boomer death cult: liberals are the politically correct remnants of libertarians complete disconnect from policy and reality. The unbeatable juggernaut Hillary Clinton who managed to win an uncontested seat while married to a sitting president ~20 years ago is less popular than a cartoon nazi, and the DNC is waffling on token gestures of minimum wage, any support for single payer, and even abandoning the primacy of basic human rights of women's physical autonomy. At a certain point the centralized management of the DNC spending the last 30+ years dismantling safety nets and now opening up to social conservatism means it's just over. If you've only been watching the Trump fiasco and the videodrome-esque nightmare of this administration, you do not want to know how fast the democrats are regressing into primitive stew of invertebrate scum and filth. This isn't sour grapes over the primary, I'm actually shocked how fast leadership is tacking to the right on even social issues I never would have expected. That the internet provides a means of organizing beyond the traditional channels for upset candidates while the RNC stands in the corner like the end of the Blair Witch Project is going to lead to a purging of people who think anyone presented by the DNC is anything more than comically terrible, or that there's a functional reason to reject embracing socialism in a country where capitalism doesn't have majority support. Once again, not trying to derail, but in the view of someone who watched libertarians fall out of vogue back in the day, I think the writing is on the wall for liberals ignoring the blatant practical, moral, and intellectual contradictions of an ideology propped up by phrases of decreasing power to describe reality, and increasing levels of blatant duplicitous delusion. The Mooch is closer to the truth of the democratic party then you want to know and If all you've seen is rumblings about running lovely trash like Deval, Harris, and Booker: it's worse than you think. Fiscally conservative. SOCIALLY INCLUSIVE.

I know we're not talking about the Korean War anymore, but we lost the Korean war because we were 100% unprepared for it, didn't have enough gear to equip our troops, and had a general who went rogue trying to invade all of North Korea instead of pushing them out of South Korea like our initial mission objective was (which we succeeded.) I feel like things would be different this time.

Also, which of the 54,930 'strains' of libertarian are you talking about? If anything, that's the only thing liberalism has in common with libertarianism - too many disparate groups unwilling to work together because of pet issues that breed irreconcilable differences.
