Nice piece of fish posted:If it's a ship that wants to do everything, it won't to any one thing particularly well. I would not take that into a CZ unless you want to lose money or engineer it a lot. The AFMU and the cabins are for doing long-range passenger runs I was thinking but from it seems then I've gimped the combat abilities too much. I was hoping to be able to do a little bit of both as otherwise I'd just buy a Vulture and keep my AspX. Would it not even be able to run low intensity zones?

Opal posted:Speaking of large ships, may I ask for critique on my first Python? Combat Zone ships have to be built for that purpose. Get yourself a Combat Zone Vulture (see Kurr's build earlier) and ditch the idea of using a Python for now. I specced a Python that might work at Combat Zones (Hull/Shield tank combo) and without Engineering it's possible it doesn't work and it costs something like 240 million credits. Military Grade Composites alone are about as expensive as your build, and without them you'll be staring at rebuy screen. A Combat Zone vulture is much, much cheaper and very capable. However, bounty hunting at RESes is completely possible with that build. Python is bad for exploration. You'll get more jump range with a Diamondback Explorer, which is literally 3 % of Python's price. I took some liberties based on my own Multirole Python, and would suggest something along these lines. Cost is about the same. This is not a combat or exploration ship, but a generalist mission runner which can fight off most of the enemies and even lurk around RESes to snatch some materials/cargo. 1. Use 2x MBeams and 3x LMulticannons. 2x Mbeams melt through shields quick enough, and 3x LMCs kill everything. Neutered by chaff. 2. D-rate your scanners. Do not use Wake Scanner as core, use chaff or a shield booster. Point Defence is not strictly necessary for a multipurpose build. 3. Fuel Scoop might be needed with that jump range. Aim to get something like 5A and only fit it when needed. These are sold in so many places that you can just rebuy one whenever you think you just need to get fast to some place 120ly away. Your biggest internals should be cargo and shields. 4. Get a SRV bay. More payouts and materials. 5. Get a collector limpet module. Python is horrible for cargo scooping. 6. Beeline 6A shields. You'll need them, but they cost 16mil. 6C bi-weaves are good if you don't consistently encounter enemies that melt through your shields anyways. 7. Get rid of AFMU. You shouldn't be taking a 53mil Python with 15 ly jump range out of the bubble. 8. Life support should be D-rated by default. Sensors should be D-rated by default. Only use A as an alternative and only if you're 101 % certain the trade-off in weight will be worth it. You should aim to engineer FSD and drives, so keep an eye out for Felicity Farseer. Are bi-weaves worth losing 200 shield hp for? Having them recharge 2.5 times faster would be nice, that's for sure.

A well engineered Python is a terror, but I'm afraid your shields are too small. Basically, this is a great post: Kurr de la Cruz posted:CZs can go very wrong very quickly, but there's a few tips you can follow to help solo them: Bolded the important bit. If you want to fight in a CZ, definitely buy a Vulture and combat fit it. If you want to trade or do passenger missions/exploring, maybe get an Asp X instead? Or for pure trade, sure, a Python. If you want to run simple missions, there's an allround build Python I can imagine that would be great with that. It depends on what you wanna do. If you like the Python and want to tool around in it for a while, fantastic! Just don't go in any CZs with it, you can do pretty much everything else pretty well.

It's also completely A-rated and engineered out the wazoo, it's literally faster in a straight line than your Python. That's where you want to be if you want to bring a multi-role into a CZ. I still get in trouble occasionally when I get piled on. E: The Vulture is a very loving cool ship. If you haven't flown it, you might decide to just keep it after you've killed some dudes with it. The Vulture owns a lot for its price.

What's the lowest investment for an entry Anaconda that actually does stuff? I heard mention 260m or something ship included. Edit: Also thanks everyone for the help

Opal posted:What's the lowest investment for an entry Anaconda that actually does stuff? I heard mention 260m or something ship included. Depends. For a trader? Yeah, that's good. It's a great trade ship, arguably only the Cutter is better. Anaconda is second best in a lot of categories. As an explorer, sure. Get the FSD all the way upgraded and enjoy a monstrous jump range. As a fighter, gently caress no. I have closer to a billion pumped into my Anaconda and I still have engineering to do. Still, Dirty Drives 5 really, really help.

Opal posted:poo poo. Python is a drat fine mission runner and generalist ship. It's not the best in combat nor the best in exploration, but it's insanely good trader and mission runner. For pure bulk, it loses to large ships. 1. It can land on medium pads, which is something neither Type-7 or a Clipper can do. 2. You can easily fit 168+tons of cargo capacity. On a medium pad. This means more missions and trade opportunities. 3. A 208ton freighter build can still have adequate offensive firepower, Advanced Discovery Scanner, SRV bay, collector limpets and okayish shields. On a medium pad! 4. It's flat enough that you can relatively safely enter the docking bays at high speeds, which in turn makes smuggling a safe option. 5. Also, the slim profile means anyone shooting at you from front or rear will likely miss at least some shots. This can be handy when chain-interdicted. 6. It has a size 7 power plant. This provides a ridiculous amount of power. You can stick a class 6A shield, 5 Plasma Accelerators and 4 A-class shield boosters in it and still have 2.3 % of surplus power. You can fit a Class 6A prismatic if you take level 1 overcharged power plant modification. 7. Once engineered with Grade 5 Dirty Drives tuning, it cruises at over 330m/s and reaches boost speeds 430+m/s. This is faster than a non-engineered Fer-de-Lance.

Do I need max rep with each faction? You need a good explorer rank to get a good payout (Pathfinder starts to offer you missions up to almost 3mil/mission, netting you ~50mil/hour on Stetson-Harrison average). You need faction rep to have the factions offer you friendly/allied missions. Then you boardscum until you have 2 well-paying missions, and boardscum more until you hit a board with something like 10+ missions. Don't exit the board, just grab them all and be on your merry way. Game will stop spawning new surface scan/massacres after you accept 3, but all that have spawned to a board will be available until you exit that board.

In Other news: I was wondering why my RIFT was performing so terrible last night, it was flickering and having dropped vertexes and weird stuff going on. I've been debating if I want to wait to build a new system or not to see what the next release of GeForce and the Coffee Lake Processor has to offer.. Anyways, my case is mounted below and I can't see into the window too well, so I lifted it up last night to look and my year old GeForce 980 Tis fans stopped working.. No wonder why it was going into crap error.. So now the EVGA RMA process begins...

Engineered shield boosters make it impressively tanky, and those 3 large multi-cannons with some overcharging are fantastic at ripping through hulls At first I hated them, but it turned out I was using them wrong. You need to be within 200 meters to make each pellet count. Also most ships are narrow on the front/side profile so attacking from above/below gets more pellets to hit them. Double shot / rapid fire + screening shell is just crazy. If you're CZing then bring some materials to create some extra ammo. Also I hear If you end up with a clip of 5 instead of 6, it'll fire 2, then 2, leaving 1 left, so if you fire again it'll fire that remaining one, then reload and automatically fire off the next round even if you don't pull the trigger.
