I don't blame them. Putting aside that they are all lunatics and in the case of Boredgamer actively promoting the game on lies, these people have all tried their best to make a go of something they wanted to enjoy. They are all sat there doing their best day after day, streaming to pitiful audiences with no new content for months and months.
CIG has totally hosed these people over. Whether you agree with it or not these streamers put everything into SC to try and eek out some kind of career or at least to create something that would bring a bit of money in and be something they enjoyed.
CIG has let these people down so badly it's insane. Their ambitions are now in tatters and the realisation that they wasted years is dawning on them. Imagine if Twerk put in the same amount of hours into Overwatch, he'd probably be where he longs to be right now, with a good audience and some cash rolling in.
I know streamers who get more viewers than Twerk playing loving racing sims for god sake.
CIG screwed these people, it's really the first genuine way we've seen how they have hosed people over, in real time.
I mean, it's loving hilarious but I do see their side.

Once salvage and repairs are in (3.2, 2018) i might just pick up a copy and check out the game again. Those mechanics, along with exploration, could be fun.

There's a better shot of him in that gear but they had several pornstars on the roster for that film so trying to get "clean" photos of him is hard when you're not at home.

I know bugger all about programming, so why is branching bad?

It gets really chunky really fast, so you're better splitting it into either switches, or even better, encapsulate the pain into a different structure, Programming is mostly about making it easier to read your own, or even worse, someone else's code; you spend a lot more time reading than you do actually coding.

There's a bunch of design patterns that would abstract away some of that poo poo, but it's common to find largely branching if-then-else next to a comment that says 'We'll clean this up later'.

Edit: And I see that I've been beaten by a red-headed stepchild. Suffice to say that there's better ways to do things than decision trees.

I've been keeping this on in the background, and even Bored is saying post 3.0 he wants to see CIG constantly iterating and releasing content. CIG is nowhere near at that point. Maybe post SQ42 when they have the basics done, they might be able to patch in a new ship, planet, or re-balancing every month. But this year, next year... Lmao.

Two months post 3.0, and the frustration will bubble back up twofold. It will be even more brutal than what we are currently seeing from streamers and on reddit. 3.0 will not be the jesus patch, and deep down they know it but can't admit it yet.

If you could quantify discontent and jubilation among the backers enough to graph it you have increasing swings back and forth over the past 2 years. Particularly when they released 2.1 -2.6.2. Backers are now upset like never before. When 3.0 drops they will be happier and celebrating more than ever (which opens up their wallets.) It's a question of how many people want to ride each wave on the rollercoaster, like this year long wait for a single patch.

Absolutely. I mean I've streamed Star Citizen once and I've basically already covered everything there is to do. Like yeah it's dumb hitching your streaming wagon to a new untested game but let's be real - people do it all the time. Huge numbers of streamers focused on Conan, PUBG, and every other drat early access game out there. These guys just happened to back the wrong horse and it's been kicking them in the balls ever since.

I genuinely feel bad for them, partly because I'm impressed at how long they've managed to keep up the charade. CIG has done nothing to help them, and in many cases has asked them to come run their events and poo poo, and it's all for nothing because you can only repeat the same 5 minute gameplay loop for so many months before you're left with nothing but the ashes of a potentially sucessfl stream.

Yeah, the funding bump from 2.0 lasted 3 months and that was constantly crashing for the first couple of weeks. So it's going to be interesting to see the reaction to the thing they release and call 3.0 (which will not be anything like the 3.0 demo in 2016). I've certainly never seen Citizens as unhappy as this before though, so logically you'd assume there has to be a breaking point.
