I'm getting a little tired of "disapproval" stats without disaggregation about what specifically people disapprove of. I don't think it's a great sign if the majority of the GOP voters disapprove of congressional GOP for not turbofucking America fast enough. Pretty much all of the Republicans I know, including my evangelical Christian family in central Virginia that has never voted for Democrats, disapprove of the plan because it would have made things worse. That's anecdotal, of course, but we've reached a point where a majority of Americans think it's the responsibility of government to provide health care: There probably are a lot of Republicans who oppose it because it's not evil enough, yeah, but I think you're overestimating it a bit.

Being good as his job is precisely the way that it can and will go south. An effective chief of staff is the type of chief of staff that Trump is incapable of working with.

kelly is doing a good job squelching a lot of the incompetence from white house and administration staff, but he has zero power over ground zero of that incompetence so unless he manages to break trump's phone he's going to have limited effectiveness

The moment I always see white liberal racism exposed is when the white liberal has to shut up and listen to a poor or uneducated person - actually shut up and listen and yield the floor. It's the moment where some 22 year old grad student believes a 90 year old black woman doesn't know anything, that she's presumptively dense and uneducated and really just a prop. Saw a lot of (fellow) Bernie supporters going there, especially when it became clear Bernie had no relationship with any black voters over the age of 30.

Re: being a racist white college liberal. I was raised in a really bigoted house, by college I had learned what I grew up with was wrong, but I really do think it took years for my gut reaction to match with what I knew in my brain. It takes time to undo things you were raised with and I think it's good and cool if young people know stuff that is right even if they have work to do to get to the place they fully internalize it.
