But all of that, for me, has been a sideshow for the series. Window dressing for the weird bits to give them context and help you relate. Without the Lodges, Twin Peaks is literally a soap opera, and if that's what you want there are a shitload of other shows you'll like more than this season.

I don't think that's really true at all. It's a parody of day time television/soap operas, which by definition will share a lot of traits and tropes but is a completely different beast.

Eh, I just looked at a handful of episodes and their runtimes were 58:11, 57:33, 58:13, and 56:56. With this show's pacing, making a big deal out of a 59 minute episode seems silly. I'm definitely tempering my expectations, and really trying to ignore the episode 13 rumor I read back in May.

Its more like it started (on S1) looking like a regular soap opera in a regular peaceful small town with a crime at the center of it. Than, as it goes, the strange and the horrible behind that small town and those regular people becomes more and more visible. Until it gets really weird

I'm having trouble formulating exactly how to say it, but I don't agree. I feel like from the very first moments lynch is over dramatizing and playing with soap opera conventions. As the series goes on it does indeed get more and more ridiculous, but even without any supernatural bits I dont think its anything close to a straight soap opera

I have the worst gaydar ever for a lesbian but I kinda thought Norma and Shelly had become a thing for a minute before we saw Shelly was dating drug guy. Something about the specific way they would exchange looks in some scenes.

Norma still being in love with Ed all these years later would be good, but I think only if some other thing ends up keeping them apart. Their whole thing is that high school sweethearts don't work out.

Cooper wakes up in episode 13. The guy who posted it knew someone who worked on the show, who would only say "Get used to Dougie, you'll see a brief glimpse of Cooper around episode 7, then he's back to a zombie til episode 13". He posted it back in May and was definitely right about the brief glimpse in ep 7 where he fends off Ike the Spike..

I disagree, but I can see where you're coming from. I think the real problem is Ed not being able to communicate properly when he gets emotional. That's the reason he fell in rebound love with Nadine and why the only way he was able to be with Norma was through an affair or when Nadine thought she was a high-schooler again. I don't think it has anything to do with the actual problems that arise from teenage romances.

sounds right its believed the actor from the casino who hyped up 12 as huge thing on twitter probably got confused and meant 13, probably heard it was gonna be either 12 and 13 pre-edit or something. plus ties in with the mitchums saying "can you wait 3 hours" about killing dougie. if it happens i bet its at the end of the episode

Kung Fu Dougie has mastered the weirding way and no longer needs sound modules to defeat his enemies.

To be honest, the only part of the last episode I didn't like was the Dr Amp scene, because it felt like a retread of his earlier scene and it even played the same shovel commercial. Like it was funny the first time when it was all leading up to a dumb joke about spray painted golden shovels.

Yeah! I am genuinely really taken aback with the Audrey scene backlash when I was already kind of wary about getting another Dr. Amp installment so soon and it turned out to have absolutely nothing new to it. It honestly felt like they slipped slightly different edits of the same scene into different episodes by accident.

The Audrey thing I can grant was overlong but still very entertaining and informative of character and 100% a Twin Peaks thing. Audrey self-isolated from the old cast but wanting to provoke soap opera dramatics, paired with a husband who is a hopeless buzzkill even if she confesses an affair or threatens divorce. The stuff with him piquing Audrey's interest with the car theft and then throwing cold water on it, or the entire rotary phone call. His face when he is obviously promising to not tell Audrey what he's hearing. Seriously some of the best pretend phone call comedy since Dr. Strangelove.

The editing of this season is overly loose but I found that with Inland Empire too and it''s something I cruelly and reductively attribute to Lynch's split from wife/editor Mary Sweeney.

The Episode 8 imagery was prophetic. This is how Lynch ends the world by creating a violent divide between all humanity over whether or not the Audrey scene was good or bad.

Since everyone's stating their sides, I'm going with side "Audrey/Charlie scene was awesome." In part it's because while he was on the phone I thought to myself "He's not going to tell her and we're not going to find out what she said, are we" but mainly because when he didn't say anything and just stared at her (I loving love that actor BTW, great dude in Sin City and Blacklist) I just lost my mind laughing. Audrey's actress still plays Audrey perfectly, Charlie's actor is awesome as usual, the scene was amazing. gently caress the haters.
