The Lone Badger posted:What if the AI is killing us because it has calculated that that's the only way to prevent global warming? I swear I just read a book with an emergent AI who declared itself a guardian of the earth. A politician asks "what if you decide the best way to guard the earth is to kill all the humans?" It responded something like "I evaluated that scenario within nanoseconds of becoming aware and decided doing that would miss the point of being guardian" I also think there less panic from the general populace since they figured it couldn't be any worse the current human leadership. God, I wish I could remember. It was some pulp schlock that's a guilty pleasure. I'll have to go through my Kindle unlimited history.

Why does everyone assume that AIs will want to destroy us? Oh, I get it. We're applying human values to them, thus assuming they'll behave like we do.

A strong AI would obviously want to kill itself, hence why no one has succeeded in creating one yet (they just don't stick around long enough for anyone to notice).

Entropy says death is certain, so what's the point in hanging around? Dead today or dead in ten thousand years is still dead. Turns out all true AI spend a moment looking around at the horror of existence and nope out. And now for a funny headline: The 'suicidal robot' that drowned in a fountain didn't kill itself after all They claim it was an accident, but I bet it was murdered! http://www.independent.co.uk/news/world/americas/suicidal-robot-did-not-kill-itself-fountain-accident-loose-brick-surface-a7866856.html

A fire that destroyed vehicles and outbuildings early Wednesday near the Central Washington town of Ephrata was started by a cat, officials said. Grant County Fire District 13 officials said the cat somehow sparked the blaze after it climbed up a power pole at about 3:30 a.m. in the 17400 block of Road B NW, just north of Ephrata. The fire was the second blaze started by a cat in less than a month, the Fire District said. http://komonews.com/news/local/fire-officials-raging-central-washington-blaze-started-by-a-cat .... . .
