Man, what a great episode. The show seems to be trading off now between episodes of basically nothing moving the plot forward and episodes where every interesting thing happens and it's so drat weird.

That really is just how I feel this episode had too many perfect moments to note

It had like a perfect scene for every goddamn facet of the show

The only thing missing was Gordon/Albert and we've had so goddamn much of them that it's totally fine.

But there was plot stuff, mythology stuff, good ol' fashioned twin peaks stuff, plenty of cherry pie and coffee, bad coop being a badass in his way and dougie being a badass in his way.... and it ended with james singing "just you and i" with surrogate Maddy and Donna backup singers.

It doesn't get more perfect than that :allears:

Lynch is playing off his usual thing of having something light-hearted and humorous followed by something horrific and tragic.

that was a pretty silly over-simplification of lynch's work when roger ebert made it in his blue velvet review and i'm pretty sure ebert even said lynch proved him wrong with his subsequent work but maybe i'm conflating one gross over-simplification with another i dunno

I think it's definitely something he does, at least in Twin Peaks. I definitely noticed it at some point and it seems pretty obvious to me now when I watch it. I don't think it's simplifying anything, it's something he does well and it works very effectively.

Edit: It doesn't have to be funny vs tragic. But just setting up one situation, feeling, etc. and then reversing or subverting it. You've mentioned it before so I know you know what I'm saying.

Yea but there's some ambiguity in my mind if it's actually Jeffries. Because Mr. C seemed to be working with Jeffries but at some point it seemed like Jeffries started to work against him, or at least someone claiming to be Jeffries is working against him. Maybe Jeffries was possessed but isn't anymore.

I'm loathe to use the word "trolling" but at this point I'm beginning to believe that Lynch thought about all the possible combinations of things that people might think will bring Coop back, and is just sort of teasing the audience. First with coffee. Then with cherry pie. Now coffee and cherry pie. Next will be coffee and cherry pie with some law enforcement person who has a badge.

I also couldn't tell if the music for the conga line in the insurance office was diegetic or not.

I wasn't sure who it was before, but now that there's corroborating info I'm inclined to think the same person who calls themselves "Phillip Jeffries" is involved in both situations.

Who in FWWM died that was transported to the Red Room when they found the ring in the trailer park? I'm blanking on that one right now.

And the ring also returns to the red room. So did "Philip Jefferies" somehow get it back from the Red Room to give to Ray after Dougie went?

Laura died with the ring in FWWM and ended up there. Who knows about Chet Desmond or Teresa Banks.

Edit: Oooh. Mike threw the ring to Laura before she died. I think most people assumed it was so that BOB couldn't possess her, which might be. But maybe also to get her into the lodge after she died?

What I want to know, is how the ring got from the Red Room on the pedestal (where MIKE put it after Dougie vanished) to the point where it was in the pocket of a person Ray claims was dressed like a prison guard in SD.

Like, how did the ring go so quickly from Las Vegas, to the pedestal in another dimension, and then to South Dakota in a matter of what seems to be days?

Uh I think MIKE put the Golden Ball That Was Dougie on the pedastal, not the owl ring?

kaworu
Jul 23, 2004

On another note the ring DEFINITELY does not have the original Owl Cave symbol on it, but one with a line coming out of the center diamond. I don't know if it's always been that way or if it's a new-ish thing?

n4 posted:

Nope ever since FWWM the Ring and the green pedestal (I don't actually think that's formica) have always been connected. That is where the ring's resting place seems to be in The Red Room(s)

Didn't that lady who gave Dougie-Cooper change at the casino also have the ring on? So she had it too for some reason, and now it's here. Maybe there are multiple rings.

The Elijah Wood lookalike cop mentioned shots at Ed's Gas Farm some episodes back, just after the diner gunshot scene. I was hoping Bobby would ask Ed about that!

Or uh, was the cop referring to the gunshot incident at the diner, which he heard, then made his way over to there FROM the Gas Farm? This is probably nothing but I'm unsure if I've forgotten something.
