I'm not terribly worried, it just sucks because I'm in better shape now than the past decade (still not great, but still working on losing weight)

Oh yeah um, buddy don't sit on that poo poo. Find out what type you are and get yourself sorted. In retrospect I shouldn't have said how it's been pretty easy for me here in Sweden since I don't know your situation but drat dude, don't take it lightly please! It is literally a day to day danger of death one way, slow slide to decrepitude another of you don't deal with it and dealing with it sucks but is not honestly that tough. I hope your insurance is ok but insulin, testing a few times a day and being aware of your diet somewhat works for type 1 pretty easily (and wasn't much of an adjustment for me) but I'm not one to talk to about type 2 though

We want you to live, and live with poo poo like your eyesight and toes...

edit: not wanting to freak you out but it really is something you need to take care of. :glomp:

After years of being hypoglycemic, I got sick & turned diabetic type 2. i was so sick I was hospitalized while my body sorted itself out. Make sure you see an opthamologist because there's tests that have to be done on your eyes. Glaucoma can happen, even if you keep your blood sugar in check.

In other news:

Athena, the coy-gi, was staying at her grandpa's house for 4th of July while her mom was with us at a festival. Normally she'd come, but the fireworks scare her so we all agreed grandpa was the best bet. Well, Athena thought different. She jumped out of Grandpa's car and took off. For a week she ran over 60 miles, across the Mojave Desert, until someone spotted her and grandpa picked her up. You'd expect she7'd lose weight--but she came back almost twice her size and sassier than ever.

With diabetics, it's less about glaucoma and more about diabetic retinopathy, which is pretty nasty stuff.

Check for sure! That said, if you got a pair of prescriptions, probably Type 2. My perspective on Type 1 is maybe somewhat skewed because by the time they figured out my brother had it, he was in the hospital for three days getting his blood sugar down from like 5 times what it should normally be (It was like 900+ by US measurements), but I think they'd be WAY more into follow up and you'd have like five appointments with specialists if it was Type 1.

Short version on the difference, really simplified. Medical goons, correct me if I am wrong!

Type 1: your body, for a variety of reasons (illness knocks out pancreas, pancreas removed, auto-immune is most common though) no longer produces insulin. Insulin lets sugar into your cells from your blood. Without insulin, your blood sugar rises until you eventually die. To manage it, you have to inject insulin for everything you eat because your body isn't producing it anymore and test many times a day.

Type 2: you have, for a variety of reasons (genetic tendencies, diet habits, some other things probably) developed a resistance to insulin. Insulin no longer is as effective at letting sugar into your cells. However, you can control this with prescriptions and eating different foods and less sugar and exercising. This can be managed to the point where you no longer have to take prescriptions and you no longer have other symptoms.

However, both are manageable with modern medical care! It'll be okay. :unsmith:

Edit: Also enjoy my cat.

She is a truly excellent cat. The belly is mostly not a trap, too. She started out terrified of everything when we first adopted and though she would purr when you stuck your hand under the bed to pet her, she wouldn't come out. It took her over a year to start coming out for more than brief jaunts, and now she'll even poke her nose at when strangers are around, but only near dinnertime. With us, she flops on her pack or follows us around. The things she loves most in the world are ear scritches, food, and yelling.

Also this one pair of pants that I had in the mending pile that she insists on rubbing her face all over for like ten minutes at a time. I don't know what that's about but they're definitely her pants now.

Today was Major's 7 year adoption anniversary so he got cake and steak. Tomorrow he needs to go to the vet for a booster but then we're going hiking. He is a very good dog and I'm glad he ended up with me and not the two other families that adopted him before me.

I also commissioned his portrait because the artist was raising money for some medical stuff. I was happy to give her money in exchange for her telling me how handsome my dog is. He is a very handsome dog :kimchi:
