Future Tone was really hard on Extreme pad for me but once I switched to a arcade setup and started using my fight stick to play it the game made a lot more sense.

Sea Sponge Run posted:Future Tone does have its problems and it might stem from the arcade source I dunno. A lot of the notecharts are really obnoxious to hit. Do you mean there's something technically wrong, or that some of the charts are arranged to be difficult but in an unfun way? I'd certainly agree w/ the latter for some songs, but I'm not exactly a pro player (most songs past 8.5 difficulty on Extreme or Extra are beyond me), so wasn't sure how much was me and how much was the game. Never tried playing on anything but pad, though.

Never tried playing on anything but pad, though. The game is not built to be played on a DS4 and is instead designed around the AC setup, which is 4 buttons laid out horizontally. This makes certain patterns and chains extremely awkward to hit without the proper control scheme.

Armor-Piercing posted:What kind of button layout do you use for it? I might need a PS4 stick after all. I have an 8 button stick, and I mirrored the arcade layout: triangle square cross circle on the bottom row, left/right left/right across the top row. The multi hold patterns on the screen mirror the physical placement of the buttons in that arrangement so you stop seeing note indications and just look for patterns.

Mason Dixon posted:I'd say pass on Project Diva X, though, as it had some annoying unlock mechanics and IMO the overall song list wasn't good enough to make up for it. I really like the music selection in Diva X. I do wish there would be more of it, though; the mission-based content was clearly made with more songs in mind. The unlock mechanics are not that different from previous games; you need to play songs to get newer songs, except this time you see a score counter going towards that goal. Future Tone, I started having more fun with it when I changed the icon layout to be entirely the DS4 buttons instead of half of it being arrows. Now it mostly plays like the other Diva games, except with the star notes replaced by holding the L1/R1 at weird times.

Diva X is fine if you exhausted other available miku games, otherwise it's a real bummer.

Can't believe it took them so long to release the Oculus Rift, the Vive, and PlayStation VR. For years I've been wondering when I'd finally be able to emulate the Virtual Boy in its truest glory!

I don't typically recommend emulation (because supporting XSeed, Atlus, Aksys, NISA, etc. is a great way to show support for games you love and also a great way to hopefully get Zero/Ao no Kiseki localized), but this is one of those times where I would say emulation is objectively okay. It's doubtful that it will ever be re-released, and no one who made it or translated it is making any money off of it anymore.

So apparently this new AW vs SAO game is trash and runs at 15 fps at the best of times in world areas. Do any of you know if SAO HR (the 3rd release) runs well now? I heard the JPN patches fixed a lot of the fps issues for it but not sure if they ever were released in NA.

It's a pretty good game though, which is more than I can say than every other game that trips my personal metric for, "this is softcore porn in disguise." Dungeon Traveler 2 (and 2-2, but it's JP only for now) is a great dungeon crawler. The fanservice is incredibly heavy, with lots of innuendos and skimpy anime girls, but if you can put up with some character designs that include panties and cutscenes with barely covered anime tits, it really is a great game.

The virtualboy emulator I played Jack Bros on used red/blue 3D glasses and it was really great, good roms are also a google search away play the sd gundam game too.

Xanada is like TOCS in many ways except the combat is apparently not well made and the story is pretty generic. I have it but haven't had time to play it myself, mostly going from some reviews I watched

Same except I played batman on a game.com. Bad video game things never got nearly as much flak back then, and there were a lot more halfway decent options.

I have to retrieve my VB from my dad's house. I haven't tested it in years so something is probably wrong, but the only thing broken on it that I know of is the stand because my older brother is an idiot. The Warioland game on the VB was extremely good. Edit: I remember really, really wanting a game.com back in the day. If I had one, I would've had a collection of some truly broke-brain bad consoles. Because the displays are mechanical (spinning mirrors) and the LED arrays are held together wth glue, one or both of the eyes will likely have issues. If you're good at soldering and aren't afraid to crack open old electronics, you can likely get it back in working order.
