For anyone that has T-Mobile, their T-Mobile Tuesdays app is giving away free Steam keys for Sonic CD next Tuesday. I'll probably have an extra to give to one of you.:)

Also the name of the song "danger on the dance floor" is a clear reference to blood on the dance floor from michael jacksons mysterious sonic 3 music involvement.

Also the snare is definitely sampled/generated from Genesis hardware.

Holy poo poo this game.

Yeah when I saw the song title I was hoping it'd be a cool genesis take on that song

The console not the band

It kinda would be worth it to bankrupt Sega to get Phil Collins to do a Sonic theme.

I always loved the Act 1 miniboss theme in Sonic 3 when you don't have it locked on to Sonic & Knuckles. That miniboss music is probably the main reason why the Sonic 3 complete romhack exists

What was the original file sizes for XBLA and WiiWare? I'm pretty sure it would have met those, even back then. Which means I probably won't be waiting very long in Starbucks!

I know! Sonic 3 has the best loving music.

Of course it goes without saying because you know, Michael Jackson. I love the poo poo outta MJ. I don't care about your accusations. He was innocent. Or at least that's what I like to believe. Shut up.

Sonic Mania Contest / ROM hack release
ROM here

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GOH9RNJiI1M

I really wanted to see a Sonic equivalent of Kaizo Mario. I had fun playing around with ideas and doodling stupid traps, but I don't think I went as stupid unfun hard as I could have. I would like to work on it more in the future, but between apathy and Sonic Mania itself I doubt it. First person to link to a vod, stream, etc of themselves beating all 6 acts gets a free copy of Sonic Mania. Already have a copy? Donate it it to a friend or your local animal shelter. Save states are encouraged, plenty of lives, final destination.

In tangentially related news, I beat Spark: The Electric Jester (Well, I beat the Spark playthrough).

Overall, I was pretty impressed. The only area I really noticed some bad slowdown in was the penultimate level, which has a ton of enemies and explosions so that's not a huge surprise. The enemy/boss variety was strong enough that I ended up not simply standing behind every boss spamming basic attacks, though there were a few I was able to cheese in this manner. Stage design was sometimes a bit aimless, with a ton of side paths that didn't feel radically different from one another, but each level brought its own gimmicks and enemies frequently enough to keep me engaged. The power system remains its strong point, with each power having a good variety of attack and movement options. My favorite powers were Edgy, Wind, Magic, Hammer, and Fire.

I'd recommend the game to anybody with a taste for Genesis action games. It's not quite Freedom Planet, but it's good in its own right.

It also has a bumping soundtrack, something which every Sonic inspired game should aspire to.

Unity? Pft. This is a bespoke C++ engine, baby.

I remember when he got Retro Sonic (same engine many many versions ago) working on a Dreamcast.

No. I can't say if having Tails around would make it any easier or harder, but a second player would help.

That's a really neat idea though.

While I'm glad that the game's filesize is small, if the Steam release doesn't come with the soundtrack in MP3/FLAC I will be sad.

I'd honestly pay extra for a soundtrack DLC if I had to.

Spiderdrake

Yeah, seriously, play the mobile remake a little. The engine is so very good.

It is a little different, I think, in little tiny cases. But in a lot of spots that different actual felt better, the bit of sonic 2 I was able to get through felt really smooth and I assume the mania version will be even better.

I didn't notice as much with Sonic CD since that's a relatively new experience and not something you can shot for shot compare.
