Captain America was revealed to be a Hydra agent in Captain America: Steve Rogers and lots of fans immediately called it being him acting as a double agent, or it being a dream/nightmare sequence, or him being trapped in a lotus eater machine or a parallel dimension or SOMETHING. Authors or whoever were like, no, no he totally is a Super Nazi. The man who has always been written as a champion of American values and compassion and was introduced in his first comic cover punching Hitler is totally a Nazi For Reals.

Turns out he wasn't really a Nazi For Reals. I think there was some drama about one of the people involved in the project being connected with the alt-right movement giving funds to GOP shitheads or something and people thinking they were pushing the CA is a Nazi thing to make it seem cool but I can't remember the details.

My favorite was the one where he goes to Japan and he's having dinner at a sushi restaurant with Toshio Maeda, the guy who made Legend Of The Overfiend, like THE tentacle porn, and during their dinner and as the elderly hostess is serving them, Maeda pulls out some pornographic artwork to show to Bourdain in the middle of the restaurant. The camera captures the hostess' composure breaking for a few seconds before continuing to still serve them.

Not sure what your point is, I was responding to the stupid tweet which compared Iraq and NK, and the obvious response is that Iraq was an abject strategic failure despite the US having absolute military superiority.

But I dunno, maybe you think several million NKs waging a paramilitary guerilla campaign would be an easy job with no loss of life for the US forces?

Let's not forget a number of other notable differences, like:

-NK is a monoethnic country with a very strong sense of national identity and no easily exploitable sectarian divides
-Highly mountainous and filled with entrenched positions
-Saturated with (outdated, but still effective) AA to the point of making CAS a supremely risky proposition
-With the only invasion path being through the most heavily fortified border in the world
-And their war strategy is to cause as much damage as quickly as possible to neighboring highly developed countries in order to force a truce

No, the guy who is writing the Captain America is a Nazi story, Nick Spencer, ran for Cincinnati city council in the early 2000s as a pro-broken windows policing Democrat.

The problem with the storyline is that it's going on forever, everyone knows how it's going to end, and people want Nazi Punching Cap back. Jack Kirby himself did a bunch of "Cap is hypnotized into becoming a Nazi" stories but they were like an issue or two instead of like two years.

No he's a New Deal Democrat.

Talking about the politics of fictional characters is way better than relitigating the primary or saying that the method in which a particular Democrat clears his throat is disingenuous

Let's not forget the classic What If? story, "What If Captain America Was Thawed Out Today?", which had the return of the anti-Communist impostor Cap and Bucky of the '50s bring about a totalitarian and racist American police state in the 1980s (I know, I know) that defrosted Steve Rogers along with disgraced SHIELD operatives led by Nick Fury, the Navy (who has been isolated from American society due to undesirable ethnic, religious and racial politics) and black revolutionaries following "Snap" Wilson (a.k.a. the Falcon) fight to overthrow.

Lightning Lord posted:

The only one that isn't was the Ultimate Universe Cap, who was a jingoistic gently caress written by Mark Millar, who thinks that's what Americans are. The Ultimate Cap's "Do you think this A stands for France?" was so offensive that Ed Brubaker on the mainline comics' run had Captain America make a comment about how he fought with the French resistance and that it breaks his heart when anyone makes a comment about "cowardly French surrender monkeys" slandering such a noble people.

The universe is a dark forest. Every civilization is an armed hunter stalking through the trees like a ghost, gently pushing aside branches that block the path and trying to tread without sound. Even breathing is done with care. The hunter has to be careful, because everywhere in the forest are stealthy hunters like him. If he finds other life—another hunter, an angel or a demon, a delicate infant or a tottering old man, a fairy or a demigod—there’s only one thing he can do: open fire and eliminate them. In this forest, hell is other people. An eternal threat that any life that exposes its own existence will be swiftly wiped out. This is the picture of cosmic civilization. It’s the explanation for the Fermi Paradox.

This ignores South Korea.
- Monoethnic country (same ethnicity as NK)
- GDP 11th in the world.
- Defense Budget 10th in the world.
- 625k active military members
- 3.1 million reserve members

It's not the US acting alone. South Korea has more conventional militarily power than any other American ally.
