Like the pods might not actively seek each other out when out of player LOS (can't have the mission solving itself after all), but any player-activated Lost and Advent pods will totally see each other as fair game.

EDIT: drat it looks like the additional 15% off voucher code for Greenman Gaming no longer works. You can still preorder a copy on GMG for like $34 but there are no additional discounts that I can find.

Eh, fire damage and lots of AOE does sound rough, but let's face it: We want a challenge. As long as they're more tough than they are frustrating, I'm all for it. Though yes, it is pretty hilarious how this would seem to continue the trend of swords being strictly inferior to shotguns.

Bring back Mechtoids. Make them a player unit like the Skirmishers. Backhand posted:Eh, fire damage and lots of AOE does sound rough, but let's face it: We want a challenge. The Fleche ability in the Long War Perk Pack goes a long way to making me care about swords, and it would be awesome if they updated the default Ranger ability to do the same thing.

Between vanilla, WotC, and LW2, you're gonna have 3 options for playing XCOM2 in the near future. I'd totally recommend giving LW2 on Veteran or even Rookie a shot before re-playing vanilla, by the way, if you're open to that sorta change of pace.

Darkrenown posted:I hear Sparks are getting some updates in WotC, but have they been detailed anywhere? Just buffs to health/aim as well as moddable guns. All of which should be more than enough to make them really good. Moddable weapons alone gets rid of their ammo issues and lets you slap on scopes for up to +15 aim im addition to the buffed base. And they already have extremely high base damage on their guns. They cannot bond like human soldiers though because Jake is a monster Zore fucked around with this message at 19:59 on Aug 9, 2017 |

SPARKs should have good hack values because they are goddamn robots.
|
# ? Aug 9, 2017 21:51 |

Nah. SPARKs should be a bit more effective as a jack of trades robot and I'm glad they're making buffs in that respect, but they shouldn't be able to wholesale replace a class. The fact that they can fill in for a Specialist's mission saving ability of hacking the objective from a distance is good enough.

Soothing Vapors posted:mind meld was only a joke because they could only mind meld other sectoids To be fair, the mind-meld could also buff MEC-toids as well which was annoying because it gave the MEC-toid an ablative HP shield. Of course that was a bit of a "minor" mind-meld since killing the Sectoid didn't kill the MEC-toid as well.

The fact that they can fill in for a Specialist's mission saving ability of hacking the objective from a distance is good enough. The both new XCOMs feel like they've really struggled to place the robot classes - in the originals they were there as an ablative HP platform that would never improve but which used sensibly could keep your rookies a bit more alive and only cost money to replace. Firaxis kept the 'not as good as a veteran human' bit but without the mass attrition of the originals and with much much tighter resource constraints they're just a sub-optimal choice. In XCOM2 SPARKS literally cost more than a human recruit, you should get more for your investment than not-quite-as-good-grenadier with a gremlin. The left skill tree should have cool firearms based poo poo like squadsight-suppression, the right skill tree should take Wrecking Ball as a starting point and turn your SPARK into a room-breaching murder blade machine which punches out Sectopods.

Yeah. And while SHIVs were solid-but-boring in the vanilla game, they were terrific early game tanks in Long War thanks to being expendable and not hindered by the Fatigue mechanic. They lost value over time as your veterans gradually outpaced them, and you never ever wanted to rely on them too heavily for just that reason, but I'd argue that's how it should be.

Shiv were never not extremely useful, having mobile cover that can suppress enemies was basically a get out of free card for my soldiers in some of the most dire situations.
