i just hate how forgivable his kit is to dive and escape step 1: charge punch into some squishy in the middle of the enemy team step 2: uppercut and leap away back to safety. the worst part is theres no defense that can stop him from smashing a squishy other than there being no geometry behind you or having a tank somehow able to reactively body block

Yeah my downswing came after a few ounces of whiskey, but it wasn't me I swear! there was nothing I could do to stop the onslaught. Also, the 2500 range is full of people that say "NO GET OUT OF GOALIE" after someone gets scored on once. Then they proceed to get stomped. They don't realize that they did well at keeper once because of good midfield control.

Regular comp is 95% static except the average moves slowly up as mediocre players get better and bad players leave (this means your rating gets worse if you don't keep up).

The way I see it is you made your MMR number when the average player was worse. When return to comp from a long break, you are getting whooped by people you consider below your level. This is because the rating is a relative scale, and you have become relatively worse compared to an average player. It takes a while for MMR to adjust down, so you are still getting weird matchups. The point is that there is no grind to get your magical arbitrary number "back to where it should be." Blizzard isn't artificially making it it slow to force you to play more games. The only grind is getting better at winning games and beating better opponents no matter what your allies are like.

I read your edit, I'm not sure where you saw me saying "I'm losing to people below my one true rank." My winrate is 55%, the point is that the system doesn't know yet after a break. I only brought up my rank as an example of false decay. In most mmr systems, when a user is not playing, the system has no idea if they're getting better or worse so confidence % decreases. When they are playing, it increases. MMR also decays over time, since if a player is getting rusty over a break (the more common outcome) you want to quickly adjust them to their accurate level rather than subjecting them to a huge win or loss streak, since that increases your user bounce rate. There was a poster in the whining thread just last week that had a 25 loss streak, as a person that works on MMR systems for a living that would be a completely unacceptable. His confidence% should have decayed and his matchups should have been much swingier for the first 5 or so matches as it figured out where he was at. The SR system is an artificial grind. You can see it when players are at gold, getting matched against plats/diamonds, and their SR increases by 60 on a win and decreases by 20 on a loss. Their SR is not at their MMR so the system is lerping them artificially slowly towards it. The win/loss streak system they had before was a bandaid fix, but they even got rid of that. Presumably because their data shows that whales going on huge streaks buy more boxes or something.

I always interpreted the lerping to be based on your individual contribution to that match. How much of the load you carried. If it's purely just trying to seek some more stable MMR, that makes comp feel so pointless. Hopefully at least your MMR would also seek you SR when there is distance between them.

Sorry friend, Blizzard makes grind games. Either that's okay with you or it's not vv, just play for fun. Comp will EVENTUALLY put you at an accurate rank, but it will take 50+ matches. More if you're only playing a few games per day, since you're likely doing better/worse each day. SR is just a display number, it has no matchmaking function. If you watch a gm streamer on a new smurf account you'll see them getting put into diamond/masters games despite their display SR being plat. It just goes by quickly because they're playing 30 or so matches every day. There is no way to accurately tell how much of a contribution an individual is making to a match other than their win/loss rate against players at a given skill level. Jeff has said they make small tweaks to your MMR based on your performance relative to other players on that particular hero, buuut that's also a mistake and not how MMR systems traditionally work. However it means if you're carrying as Doomfist it won't necessarily know since you're being compared to every other Doomfist and not your teammates. It's also maybe the cause of the "Mercy Main" phenomenon where players that only play Mercy hit masters despite having a 48%-50% winrate, because their heal stats are high relative to other players.

I can suicide dive onto point with ult, use abilities twice, and already have another ult charged if I actually manage to hit everything. combined with how straight forward powerful the ult is, it's really dumb imo. the genji/tracer effect of being really difficult to track in melee, but unlike those heroes he isn't squishy and he's got a strong mix of both forward AND vertical momentum on top of wanting to be right in your face, meaning you need to do a lot of high speed flick spins to keep up which is really difficult if you keep your sens super low. he's really fun to play as in a "drat this feels overpowered and I'm killing people before they can react" way. but he feels like supreme garbage to play against especially if you're a "squishy" hero, aka anything with less than 250 health. he needs more than one weakness (a pharah) or less distance on charge or a weaker ultimate or something, not sure what. maybe they'll go the roadhog route of just completely gutting him and making another new hero. I've clowned on every zenyatta I've faced with him, and Orisa doesn't handle him much better either since he moves so quickly in melee while he's waiting out a Halt! (and he kills her first if she doesn't halt! anyways) I think Zarya is a more valid counter. Reaper too, since you can kill him so fast with shotgun as long as you can ghost a punch.
