I completely agree. Also, they are the best live and I am seeing them again at the rose bowl in October.

I don't even think it's better than Honeymoon. It's alright, but the guest voices are really out of place, and it's so loving sincere it's weird. Like, I admire her putting Coachella - Woodstock In My Mind on the album but it's so different lyrically.

Ultraviolence is my favorite. It sounds like an album made by a Manson girl in 1973. The first one is still really loving good though, and the Paradise edition just adds a bunch more awesome songs.

I still don't know why, but I really liked her bizarre weak rear end white girl sing talk hip hop thing she did more of in her first album. As far as singing goes, she is great at her 70s torch singer schitck, but the minimalist aspect she was accentuating didn't do much for me. I couldn't make it through Ultraviolence or Honeymoon in one sitting.

There was a recent Billboard article about her ten best songs or something like that, and it seemed like an advertisement because they tried to have equal representation from each album.

Lana Del Rey's new album is pretty good. Listened to half of it on Spotify before buying it. Some of the features feel out of place (not Sean Lennon), but overall it's not as dull and monotonous as some of her other stuff.

Edit: Finished it. She (and her producers) knocked it out of the park.

Finally got around to it myself. "13 Beaches" is the song I've always wanted her to make. Maybe I'm just a sucker for late '90s trip-hop styled fat drum machines and synth washes, but it's great. And I mean, really, any song where Lana remembers that drums exist is typically a highlight.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RQ6jjkoE-zw

The album as a whole is definitely strong, aside from clearly being wayyyy too long. It's admirable that she apparently doesn't care how long people think an album should be, but drat. I wouldn't exactly say it gets boring, which is a victory in itself -- pretty much all of her albums drag in the middle even at 10-20 minutes shorter than this one -- but it's still exhausting. Generally I like long albums, but it's really tough to pull off a long pop album, since the songs are usually all pretty similar structurally and you don't have stuff like instrumentals or shorter interlude-type tracks to break things up. (Although "White Mustang" comes close.) I also wouldn't say any of the songs stick out as being disposable. But this is one album that legitimately would've benefited from the "deluxe edition" treatment, tossing some songs onto a second disc.

Lust for Life is terrific. I was expecting it to kinda suck because of all the guest singers, but for the most part they work well. Sean Lennon is like his father's ghost stepping out of 1980. And something's been put right in the universe with Stevie x Lana together.

The album doesn't feel like it has an overarching theme the way her earlier ones did. Lana's vocals are on loving point, though.

Yup, this album is pretty good. She really is sticking with a bit of that country tune too, and she makes it work. I saw her last year and she sounded geared up to drop an album as soon as she could. Rainbow has a lot of life and personality to it, and I am really glad she finally got to do it.

I think my problem with Lorde is that she just never sounds like she's having any loving fun, at all. Like I like her music just fine, but I always want her to cut loose and go a bit more nuts than she ever does.

It's strange to me that you wouldn't have a positive initial reaction to Woman since it's one of the most fun and quintessentially Kesha tracks on the entire album. Learn to Let You Go to me feels like a Katy Perry song and is the weakest link in the chain. Otherwise a pretty strong comeback, the world needs more Kesha.

At least she's gotten over the 'I'm a small town girl with small town friends who's above all these fancy things in other pop/rap music. :smug:" thing I hated when she first got big.

"Tell that to Zod's snapped neck!"

I finally got to Rainbow and now I feel bad that I didn't listen to it sooner, it's really loving good. Even the worst song is just listenable, and the best stuff (Godzilla is cute and reminded me of Joanna Newsom with a less obnoxious voice, Woman and Hunt You Down own bones, Spaceship is the highlight of the album by far) is really truly great and very obviously who Kesha wants to be and should be.

I want entire albums based on the different directions she goes on this album. An entire album of her singing country songs written by her and her mom, an entire album of her leading a full-on rock band like the badass riot girl she has been since I heard that Iggy Pop song (or similarly, a full-on Poison/Ratt/Motley Crue hair metal album), an entire album of her and Ben Folds writing poppy/Ben Folds-y piano music, an entire album of super twee songs about kaiju, etc.

edit: I've listened to Rainbow a bit more and I really wish Bastards wasn't the opener because I really like albums with a strong opener and Bastards is definitely one of the weaker songs. But it's still really really good overall, and I don't think there's anyone in pop music who swears better than Kesha. the "god drat"s in Finding You and the "Motherfucker"s in Woman are awesome and it's not awkward like it is when some pop singers (coughkatyperrycough) swear in their songs.

Also I went back through a blog to read a bunch of articles about the Kesha/Dr. Luke thing because it has been a while since I kept up with it and now i'm just really angry. gently caress that guy, i hope a wolf bites his dick off.
