Someone found a google maps of the place pre-explosion and used that and the timing of the destruction to calculate the shockwave velocity. The conclusion was that the guy probably got gibbed.

When he realised he couldn't escape the blast he kept filming until the last possible moment and then cradled the camera underneath his body to preserve it in the hopes that his corpse would be discovered and the footage would be useful to the study of volcanoes.
