In weird news of the day, Tockwith Motorsport has withdrawn from the ELMS because they were involved in a really lovely british rap video. http://www.dailysportscar.com/2017/08/09/tockwith-lmp-programme-withdrawn-for-remainder-of-2017-season.html The video in question... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eRQ6jaK98_Q

Wirth1000 posted:https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=U_lxcMIvlTQ Roborace is going to be amazing because it's about the tech first and the racing second. The first event that is completed without cars crashing off the track or into each other—no way in hell that is going to be the first race of the inaugural season—will be a drat-amazing milestone for car technology. With time these cars are going to be better-programmed and start getting more aggressive on the track, at which point the racing should be a lot more interesting. I tell you what though, the first autonomous pass for position during a live race will be worth tuning in for.

The determination factors for a pass literally going to come down to material manufacturing and quality control constraints by the smallest of margins. It's going to be interesting to see how it pans out for sure.

I'm also interested in what kinds of teams go in to program them. Like will it be mostly tech companies and universities or will we get the best possible world and have game devs going in and giving us Forza AI in real life.

At this point with mainly the front ends getting groomed if it's not even worth putting money on developing elsewhere since you'll be BoP'd to be like anyone else aero wise. I still do like the car though. Good we'll have 4 manufacturers next year, so I'm ok with that.

Rally Germany is starting properly after yesterdays super special stage. Its a fast tarmac rally, and among other races across the famous Baumholder tank proving grounds with huge rocks lining the roads. The championship contenders Neuville and Ogier are currently equal on points, and should be the ones to watch, especially on Sunday. http://www.wrc.com/en/wrc/livecenter/page/4175----.html https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kJ4bfrZ5vY4 Bloody hell, Meeke doesn't make it easy on himself does he? The stage was pretty stupid and that crash had the worst possible outcome but still

They're not trying to completely revamp the aero, just provide enough cues and looks that you can see a family DNA from the DPi to the street models. I like it, and considering the development history (Oreca for the base car and combining with Penske from now plus an established prototype engine) I'm sure it'll fly next year too.

Oh I know, but some headlights + a beam across the front is even less than Caddy did and way less than Mazda did for "brand identity". WIll be fun regardless.

I watched the V8 Supercars race and I'm going to be real salty if SVG and McLaughlin continue to contrive to hand the championship to Whincup. What a lucky bastard. I'm still pulling for Fabian Coulthard to randomly pull it off, though.

Strong performance by Tanak over the weekend. He is increasingly looking like a championship contender. A strong second for Mikkelsen as well, and Ogier takes the championship lead again. I wish we had more of Fridays weather though. The silly season start now with a lot of drivers expecting they will have contracts in place over the summer break. Not sure what movement we will see. Hanninen is at risk, but has looked better these few past rallies. Could be replaced by Sunninen, and Tidemand takes his spot at M-Sport. Mikkelsen will probably get a seat, and they could potentially keep rotating the drivers like this year. I would maybe think they drop Lefebre though I guess a lot rests on weather both Tanak and Ogier stays at M-Sport. Ogier has said that he would stay, but expressed doubt if they can afford him without Ford sponsorship. Citroen is probably the only realistic alternative. I don't see the Hyundai roster changing much.
