Same sound effect and everything. Same sound as the one Beverly and Ben are hearing, must be coming through the heating system, and would seem to probably represent MIKE, and not Josie.

That scene was originally made for the ending of the European version of the pilot, in which it is set in the basement of the hospital.

Well... He did but you have to remember that THE stereotypical dudes used to get on their arm was a heart with "MOM" written on it. It was like, one of those ongoing bad jokes you'd see in cartoons and stuff from the teens clear through to the 80s more or less. Only in the last few decades has the whole "MOM-heart tattoo" cliche fallen out of favor.

Not to really discredit what you're saying, I just wouldn't read too much into Gerard saying his tattoo said MOM because that was him just loving with the police. At the time MIKE and BOB both had matching tattoos once, according to Cooper's dream, with both saying "Fire Walk With Me" which we know now is a sort of incantation for possession, it seems.

I don't think it really meant anything, was just a funny thing to notice. As you said, it was more of a joke about those kinds of tattoos in the original series, I have no idea how old the idea of the 'Mother'/'Experiment' thing is. Maybe Lynch and Frost had already planned to use something similar if they'd gotten a season 3 during the original run, maybe they did, maybe they didn't.

Oh, I also wanted to say that the episode was loving AMAZING (I always say that but it's been ESPECIALLY true of this episode and the last one). I'm frankly in awe of how drawn into this show I am. Very glad I just ignored the spoilers.

There were just way too many great moments to count. I was shocked and terrified with the bar scene. I knew that Sarah was some serious BAD poo poo at this point, but I sincerely didn't think it was.. THIS kind of bad poo poo. Good GOD.

The pointed phallic thing in her void phase definitely reminded me of Mrs. Tremont's son mask, but it also reminded me of The Jumping Man, who had a similarly long and almost pointed probiscis and a face painted paper-white. His actor is credited in the revival and I've been waiting for him to show up; I have to say I was reminded a bit of The Jumping Man, though he has dirtier teeth.

With the teeth closeup in Sarah's voice-face, I was actually reminded of those weird fishbowl lens closeups in FWWM in Bowie's flashback (referenced even in this episode) of the guy saying "electricity", and also closeups of BOB's face, TMFAP's face, and The Jumping Man's face are in Missing Pieces. But anyway, the scariest part of that scene was Grace Zabriskie's normal face and the way she speaks and comports herself as Sarah. Er, in relation to what she does as a demon. *shivers*

But uh, yeah. There is SO much to unpack here, I kinda feel like... We got to what we thought might be the climax of the show and moved right past it and now we don't know WHAT in gently caress is going to happen. I was reminded watching this episode just what a GREAT ensemble show Twin Peaks is, and just how many great actors and characters Lynch has to work with at all times. I dunno if anyone else noticed, but there were NO scenes with Kyle Maclachlan in this episode! He shows up faceless in Gordon's Monica Belluce (lolll) dream and we see footage of him from FWWM, then we see Cooper and his 'Ganger blinking apart in Andy's vision. Otherwise, there was no Dougie, and no Mr. C. And I don't think a SINGLE person has mentioned that fact yet. More than anything else, I think this points out what a fantastically amazing show Twin Peaks can be regardless of Kyle Maclachlan and the real Cooper coming back or not and Bad Cooper and Dougie... They are all amazing and Maclachlan does incredible work but it's notable that the episode he takes off is one of the best in the series :)

Such a great ensemble. Harry Goaz honestly picked up a lot of slack as Andy, I've always been a bit... critical of his acting and the sort of broad comedy his character is often relegated to, so it was actually pretty great seeing Andy really becoming a part of things. I think it goes all the way back to the Pilot - Andy was the only one breaking into tears at the sight of Laura's body, or when he found the train-car where she was killed. And apparently he always does that. And here, Andy was the one who bent down and held the hand of the strange naked woman, trying to comfort her despite.... All of the weirdness. I would say it's this empathy that makes Andy 'special', and that even as a cop his first instinct is ALWAYS towards empathy and sensitivity, in spite of his slowness and gullibility.

Also this might sound weird... Look at "Jack Rabbit's Palace", I dunno... I thought the wood on top kinda resembled the spire of rock where the Fireman's, er, house was - on that pink ocean. Or maybe I am seeing things again.

I think there's some sort of meta level communication going on behind what we're seeing. Andy knew that he had to specifically take care of the girl and put get somewhere where she couldn't be harmed, almost like he was specifically told to place her in the cell.

I also have not been able to get the following Einstein quote out of my head:

"the distinction between past, present, and future is only a stubbornly persistent illusion."

Is it Future? Or is it Past?

I can't say I get this, because like most humans I generally perceive time as an arrow, moving slowly. But I think one of the time points of this series is the fact Time in fact really just Is.

Like, Time is a fast-flowing river, and we're zooming down it in a canoe going faster and faster, only able to see what's around us RIGHT NOW. We can't see the entire river, all at once, as the complete and total whole that it is, with a clear beginning and a clear end, and those never change, nor does the path of the river.

I get the sense that Lodge entities are able to see the universe as Einstein envisioned it, with time as one whole totality, start to finish. That's why they can change little things and alter the course just by tweaking something here or there. Like having Dougie buy the cherry pie for the Mitchum Bros. Seems to make sense to me.

I may be misremembering, but I thought it was similar in Episode 12, where the only brief shot is of Dougie 'playing catch' with Sonny Jim for a half second cutaway gag.

I thought it might be something weird with show / actor contracts, like to get the main top billing credit he needs to at least appear in every episode. In my mind this theory seemed especially probable when in the very next episode it appears that scene was out of sequence, and Dougie had been missing with the casino guys overnight.

But then in that same episode the show started to do a whole bunch of things seemingly out of time, especially with Bobby, so who knows.

The future is definitely not entirely separated from the past and the present in this show. Philip Jeffries mistakes Cooper for his doppelganger, Annie tells Laura Palmer to write messages in her diary, etc. It also seems like Laura has basically become an angelic, godlike entity over the course of FWWM and the Return.
At that point, does it really matter whether "Mom" being written on Gerard's arm was initially a joke? It seems plausible enough that the tattoo could be referring to the mother creature regardless. After all, the future changes the past.

I'm not sure what Jack Rabbit's Palace was supposed to remind us of, but I got a very clear sense that it was supposed to look like something. The little movement the camera did so it could focus on the shape of the tree was way too deliberate for it to be random.

ive got a bunch of crackpot theories:

gordon isn't actually deaf
that naked girl is the daughter of the mother monster creature
also naked girl is related to laura palmer somehow
sarah palmer prob was the girl in ep 8
"fireman, fire walk with me, need a light" some sort of pattern is emerging
seriously lol that andy knows all the secrets of the universe
if major briggs knows alot wtf is he doing bringing his son to a weird otherworldly spire thing
in one of the cells in the twin peaks jail there is a woodsman, maybe the drunk (wtf was going on with his face?)
diane texting with someone about vegas, now there is a diane connection to vegas? weird?
diane never saw a photo of (the real) douglas jones? I don't believe her connection..
why are we seeing spiral warps in the sky? why is everyone weirdly chill about them? gordon and albert were okay with em, the twin peaks team were kinda dumbfounded and had their memories wiped or something
are the spiral warps different from other 'abductions' into the alternate dimensions?

Seems like there are a few different alternate dimensions:

Staircaseworld, with the flower wallpaper and a staircase. woodsmen are all over that in gordon's warp vision, but it doesn't seem like a woodsman type place.

Waterworld, with the PURPLE infinite sea and jackrabbit's (real) palace. The naked girl lives here. And there is also the other woman there too.

Waiting room, with the ziggy zaggy floor. MIKE seems to live here. so does the arm.

Black lodge / convinece store, nasty place where BOB and the arm argue over garbonzia.

White lodge, black and white with the fireman and the large nice looking woman. Andy fits in just fine in this world..

The biggest shock to me is that Billy and Tina are real people. I also has a (serious of?) hosed up dream(s) last night. One part was me forced into some PUBG/battle royale kind of scenario in the woods that kind of looked like the area near jackrabbit's palace, but the other part had to do with Audrey.

Me, or someone, went to the hospital room and saw her. Her face was exposed and her limbs seemed present under the blanket, but her heart and maybe lungs were outside of her. Still hooked up and functioning, but no longer in her chest. There was a mental health professional of some kind beside her bed who said that she had been injured and needed to tell you her nickname. In order for her to recover mentally, she had to work past some road block and tell you her nickname and then she would be okay. I remember she did speak, but only in short bursts like an upset small child who can't really form sentences yet.

I'll shoot Lynch a post card and hope he can get back to me on what this means.
