At the very least I hope this is like when Roof shot up that church and people couldn't pretend the flag was anything other than a hate symbol. It's going to be hard for non-Trump politicians to say that those statues have any value after nazis decided to come in a throw a fit about one's removal.

Timestamped from earlier: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=G0y55BVXffY&t=1286s Is it usual for press not to applaud a president walking to the podium? He says "thank you" as if he were expecting applause. Perhaps the camera shutters sounded like applause?

Right. The takeaway for me is that we're at the point where his remaining support is resilient enough that it won't be shaken loose by events like this weekend, unless they're at a scale we really don't want happening like Katrina or 9/11, but it will diminish over time by pure force of attrition as people become disillusioned. I think the congressional GOP, if it wanted to, could start pushing that number lower by going into open opposition against him, but there's no incentive for them to do that right now. But if nothing of that sort happens, trying to pick apart 1-2 point swings is not useful. Especially since we're having a logarithmically accelerating number of the kinds of events that impacted approval polling in the old world.
