I've just got rapid fire on my specialist medic and it's left me in a bit of a bind as I usually just slap the bolt caster on them and that's good enough but now I need to know what's the recommended setup for a rifle, currently I'm at mag weapons, I'm on console so no mods except DLC.

A scope is a really good choice because they'll generally be taking shots at enemies at range/in half cover. And especially with Rapid Fire, since they can't count on getting right up in enemy's faces to counteract that penalty. A stock can also be a good choice (guaranteed damage is always good!), especially if you have a medic spec and so missed out on the guaranteed damage from Combat Protocol. It doesn't work with Rapid Fire though. Expanded mags and free reloads can be helpful, but rifles generally have enough ammo that you can find time to reload often enough. Repeaters can be pretty funny, but overall lots of small edges that work in every encounter are better than something that makes one encounter a total cakewalk but does absolutely nothing for the next five.

I'd probably aim for scope/stock/(ex. mag if you have a third slot), filling in empty spots with whatever you have on hand temporarily until you can find all the good stuff.

Dusted off the game in excitement for the expansion, I figure if there's trophies to unlock there's an excuse to play too. I've been being good and not savescumming when my units are shot or killed even. I'm not sure why RNG hates me but *every* hit landed on my guys are crits. Every one.

That's probably because of the "one roll" system XCom 2 uses. In Enemy Unknown/Within, there were two rolls--one to hit, one to crit. For 2, they are the same roll, so if something has low odds of hitting you (because you were smart and got in good cover), then if it rolls a number low enough to hit that number is almost certainly also low enough to fall under the crit number.

It's a bad system. 5er, there's a mod called "EU Aim Rolls" that mod in the 2 rolls. It's the only mod that makes the game easier I'm not in the slightest ashamed to use (well and Overwatch All but there are three occasions where that's more "advantage" than "convenience")

I would recommend Xylth's crit chance changes instead because EU Aim Rolls nerfs the poo poo out of anything that adds to crit unless it's part of an overhaul that uses it. (So basically just Spectrum).

So this is hard on impossible. Or at least it is when you miss every loving shot on the avatars, they hid in the corners, mind control your team, and then you get hosed by the endless reinforcements. 3 andromedons dropped on my flank? Oh that's fun, that's fair :suicide:

I guess I can try again but restarting a mission on Ironman feels lovely.

Nope. Your console just has to stop and take a breather halfway through the finale is all.

But yeah, fuckit, I powered through Vanilla mod-free on Veteran when it came out. I'll do so again (though maybe with some cosmetics if any of those still work).

If I remember from the streams they've implemented at least some of Gotcha, so it won't be too bad. Hopefully Evac/Overwatch All just work.

It has somewhat of a soft-timer, in that once you've got the 3rd avatar up, it's time to win (or lose) the game. You basically have to murder the first one really quick, manage/kill the pods while you're killing the 2nd one, then when the 3rd one comes you basically ignore everything else on the map and kill it with everything you have.

3 tips:

1. Bring 2 rangers with run&gun and rapid fire and melt avatars with double shot-gun crits. Use run&gun on the first one and it should be up again for the last one.

2. Bring guaranteed damage at has a long range. Combat protocol/sniper with squadsight and a stock/spark bit/rockets. That way you can force the avatar to relocate when they teleport to a lovely spot.

You can also use a MC'd gatekeeper to distract reinforcements or mc a viper and use their grab/bind to keep the avatar from teleporting away on damage. But when it comes to avatars, basically I'm just chipping away armor on them and trying to get them to teleport to a spot for my rangers to get a rapid-fire flank.

Embargo appears to be over; there are a bunch of people with Youtube videos and such out, e.g. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=F3kiO_3r33o

The main takeaway is that mission loading is basically instant, and while I imagine Marbozir has a better computer than I do, I'm guessing I'll no longer have to wait over a minute while staring at my troops bobbing their heads in the Skyranger.

Second try went fine. Avatars are a lot less bullshit when they aren't dodging every shot and teleporting to the far corners of the map.

This whole campaign was stupid as hell though. The squad above went on basically every mission. Those 3 sparks saved the entire campaign, cause I made a serious blunder; I forgot that predator armour requires advent trooper corpses. So I wasn't able to actually make it. Instead I used 3 sparks and outfitted my regular soldiers with proving grounds armour and upgraded to the ruler suits later.

I hear Sparks are getting buffed in WotC. I think they are better than most people give them credit for, but they could defintiely be improved in a lot of ways. Hopefully their trash skills will be fixed and they will get better aim. Their aim in particular is the main thing that drags them down late game. You have to be point blank to get reliable shots off against most enemies.

Also here's the wall of shame so you can see why I ended up having to use 3 sparks;

Sparks are explicitly getting aim and HP buffs. Also you'll be able to put mods on their weapons all of which should help them a ton.

Play Norsca in Total War Warhammer? That's new isn't it? Or if you don't own that game, search for porn and build up a collection via downloads so that you will have porn available even when you have internet troubles.

This was from a stream in the early game, so I think the implication is that it'll give a grenade charge to troopers that don't carry them, and it gives an extra one to those that do.

Yes, Frost Bomb does frost damage (though obv. it'll do 0 unless altered), Incendiary Grenades do fire damage, etc.

He didn't get caught. The camera cuts out just as he decides to return fire and the two guys after him have stormtrooper levels of accuracy.

XCOM being XCOM he probably murked the two of them just to detract from his cool sacrificial act with 100% accuracy shots and then proceeded to extract. :xcom:

I wouldn't wait a couple days, don't be surprised if it takes longer. As far as reports go, WOTC is a new executable with a different underlying code base. Any mods relying on class overrides are pretty prone to getting hosed up by this release.

Modders will need to download a wholly updated SDK, and we have no idea what that will look like in terms of how we distribute & support base game + WOTC.

I'm sure all this will be worked out in time, it's just this will throw things out of whack way more than any of the DLC patches, so I'd curb your expectations is all.
