Does anybody know wtf these things are? I found a ton of them along some huge deposit of dead coral on the shore line along with a bunch of other little snails.

I've read that some people eat them. Are they tasty?

Magnetite teeth When I was a kid I absolutely loved (and I still do) the Audobon society wildlife guides. The seashore one was my favorite and I always thought chitons were cool as hell.

So I have a bush in my front yard that started to whither and turn brown. We've had a really dry summer so initially I thought it just needed water, but when I checked it I found that it's covered with small slug/leech like things that are sucking all the juices out of the leaves. I tried using some normal store bought pesticides but they have had no effect and the bush is pretty much now completely sucked dry. I'm just checking to see if anyone know what these things are so I can look up more specialized deterants for them.

We're in Maui on vacation and I've come across many critters! Myna bird. They're everywhere and very chatty. This was outside our hotel room. It's a baby fish thing! Found in a swimming hole off the road to Hana. Found several of these guys hanging out by the same pool mentioned above. Not sure if they're feral or belong to locals, but some of them were super friendly. Others not so much. Small Asian Mongoose. Waianapanapa State Park. Bunch of em. Invasive species introduced in the late 1800's to fight the rats. Only problem is rats are nocturnal and the mongoose are diurnal. Bad news for local bird populations. Millipede(?) in the same park. Red-crested cardinal. Very interested in fighting the myna birds over bread and other scraps. A gecko? I think? Found in the Old Lahaina Prison. Same as above except green! Dolphins off of Molokini crater. Pretty sure they're bottlenose. Frigate birds. Also at Molokini crater.

I'm defiantly not using a DSLR, if you'll forgive the quality, I wanted to share the critters found this weekend in a vernal pool around Phoenix Arizona. I pulled 14 tadpoles from a drying pool to see what will come out, then will release back to the same area after observation. I believe these to be Mexican Spadefoot(Spea multiplicata), but time will tell. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sYSBVkxbEFo

My cooper's hawk friend visited today a couple of hours before the eclipse. I'm pretty sure it was a sign from Huitzilopochtli. This was maybe 5 feet away through a glass door and I was close to getting a better shot when my dog spooked him. This is his third year hanging around and eating doves and it's not the first time he's perched on the deck and let me get close to him, t makes me wonder if he was rehabilitated or a pet or something Also the hummingbird that lives in those trees was buzzing around talking poo poo to the hawk the whole time, but he didnt show up in focus in any of the pics

tessdaterrible posted:What a great visitor. Is he a regular on your porch or just occasionally spot him? I have a birdfeeder which attracts lots of doves. He eats some of the doves. Mostly you just find little piles of feathers that look like a meteor hit a dove but sometimes he swoops in close to a window when he's on the approach to show off, or hangs out on the deck
