Also hype for Mario Xcom, but how many rabbids can you fit in your backpack?

You MUST have a rabbid. Surely if people simply are forced to interact with the annoying things they'll learn to love them.

I was looking around for info about game length. The leaked slides said "Story Mode Length: Approx. 20 hours". I also saw a video where the presenter said he was on level 8 of world 3 and that there was a boss after that. He wasn't allowed to name the boss, so it isn't clear if that's the end boss, but it probably was? We also don't know whether a level is a single battle or a chain of battles.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Tx8E_c2o87M Here's a crosspost from the Switch thread. Rabbid Luigi is your standard assault/AoE character, but he also gets vampire upgrades.

It seems like status effects might be a pretty big deal, especially if immunity is a unique ability. Also it seems like AOE is much more common and can more easily hit more targets, which should give this a very different feel from XCOM. I saw some gameplay footage with Peach and she has a blunderbuss attack that hits a cone with an area of like 32 tiles. If that's her basic attack then wow

This game has weirdly gone from 'is this a joke? What?' to 'haha this actually looks cool' to 'well poo poo I may buy this if reviews are good'. It's such a typical Nintendo thing to take such a dumb idea and actually do work with it. I really like that it's just shamelessly X-Com but with the mario movement focus slathered on it.

For me, Rabbids has inched up the Splatoon path of "This looks dumb" to "this looks surprisingly good but I'm not getting it" and is almost at "definitely buying" status. Just need some feedback from non-influencers to confirm the game is decently engaging the whole way through.

CharlieFoxtrot posted:If that's her basic attack then wow It is. I caught another video and they said there are ten levels per world (with one mini boss and one boss each). So with that and the 20 hours quote, I think the question of how long the game is is pretty close to settled. I just didn't notice.

I just hope it's not a 6-8 hour game at this point, I'm all aboard the Mario Xcom train. Would be nice if it kept me busy until Destiny 2 release.

DalaranJ posted:It is. 20 hours isn't half bad. Seeing as there's skill trees and (hopefully) soul-wrenching levels of hard difficulties, the game probably has a decent amount of replay value. XCOM was certainly replayable, and that had just four classes with two branches of skill trees a pop.

I don't expect this game to last nearly as long as XCOM, and the time value there was not so much in an individual campaign but because of the huge effects of variance within the missions and character death, neither of which this game has. (I assume, I don't picture this as the kind of game where Yoshi can be permadead but who knows) But 20 hours seems like it would be pretty solid and I could see myself going through the campaign a second time on a higher difficulty

This video actually shows that my OP was wrong about the fourth world, since the ice world is combined with the desert world. As far as I'm aware, there is no evidence at all of what the fourth world will be like, unless it's related to 'the megabug', which I think is unlikely.

I'd figure given the pattern of Nintendo games, there's the core story campaign which ramps up to some degree, then postgame challenge maps and/or a Hard Mode. They don't want to scare the children away with the difficulty, but tend not to have anemic content.

There's an easy button you can hit before a level (or after dying) that heals you back up and halves the enemy health so kids should have no problem.
