On one hand this is kind of cool, on the other hand the video and demos are basically 100% not representative of what it's actually like to use the drat thing. Not only is it a completely unprotected/unblocked laser showing people happily just casually using it left and right, but the actual engraving process is waaaaay slower than implied.

Have some mobility issues? Have an engine hoist, bumper winch and a wheelchair combined into one to hoist people around. Despite looking really stupid and being large enough to be inconvenient in many houses, it doesn't seem too terrible and might help someone, assuming a well built, tested, and professionally designed version that didn't need to let people rope down cliffs and things. What's the big problem? The reward is a cooker shaped like their device. The prototype? also a cooker shaped like their thing. This is a machine to pluck people from their wheelchairs and cook them, going by their rewards. Luckily $10k gets you a better reward... a telescoping halogen lamp. It's a small, automated reminder of the time you helped some Australians cook people in the name of caring.

yeah the times they have for those engravings are ridiculous. like 75 loving minutes for a playing-card-sized piece of wood? even the $1000 ultra-dangerous chinese laser cutters you buy from ebay can do that kind of job in seconds. and if you look at a serious industrial system, well https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0-Sf8ohG2aY (go especially to about 1:40)
