Congrats guys! Well done freedom fighting.

May I suggest that you do you next action in the bay area next time? I'm sure that jury pool will love you just as much.

They tried that this time. It led to the defence constantly being told to shut up, which made the jury think the government had something to hide. :tinfoil: You would need the Jury in a separate room watching the trial on a feed with a 20 minute delay or something.

The lessons are a) guns make your opinion count more, and b) there's no upside for the government in waiting people out and winning in court if it's just going to be some jury nullification sham.

Very bad lessons, and it's going to result in people being killed.

People paying American dollars to let other people know they didn't agree with someone's position on something is the lifeblood of these forums.
We need a system of professional jurors who have undergone some level of legal training.

apparently not, because the judge tried pretty hard

DQed a bunch of pro-Bundy jurors, didn't let the defendants tell their stories about how they were just peacefully protecting themselves from the evil government, etc

this loving sucks

what in the hell is a "partial not guilty" anyway

e: oh, it means only some of them were found not guilty

I can't help but notice that in those tweets we only heard about the two jurors who sounded like they wanted to go with guilty, and not the two complaining about them who are likely sovcit assholes that need to be disappeared.

Kill the anti-government militants or disappear them to gitmo like they'd have done if these people looked middle eastern in the slightest.

The only thing Janet Reno did wrong was that she didn't declare open season on militias.

lol at expecting these trials to turn into anything other than examples of flaws with the juror system as the feds prove to be worse at packing juries than most sleezy district attorneys.

Maybe now liberals who love jury nullification when it's getting people off on drug charges will understand why it is actually bad.

Jury nullification is poo poo. It's not an intended part of jury trials, it's expressly illegal.

two of the defendants were acquitted on all ten charges

one was acquitted on eight of the charges, and the remaining one was acquitted on six of the charges

the jury failed to reach a verdict on the remaining charges

Aggressive punishment of attorneys who go for it. The judge probably should've declared a mistrial and gone for punitive measures the instant it was clear the defense attorneys were shooting for this. This time around they were practically taking a sovcit stance.

Not great. There aren't going to be many people who aren't aware of the case, and weeding out all the sovcit sympathizers is probably impossible. It only takes one.

chitoryu12

The defense attorneys are also now going to be fully aware that jury nullification is very much possible. Hopefully the judges involved are likewise aware and do something serious to stamp it out, but I don't know what they could do that a sympathetic jury wouldn't take as "the government is manipulating the trial!"

This would be impossible to enforce.

What really needs to happen apparently is a poo poo ton of AUSAs need to go to remedial trial skills courses with an emphasis on jury selection.

It's impossible to have decent trial attorneys at USA offices under their current hiring practices of "just hire whoever was on the law review at Harvard".

It's not clear that there was anything more that the prosecution could have done at jury selection. There are already mechanisms of enforcement on attorneys pulling this, and it was really obvious in this case.
