Cap overages do, but up to the cap they count towards this year. I'm just marveling at how bad that cap situation is.

Wouldn't mind him in Vancouver at that price but just glad to see him still playing. Having a guy like that around will probably blow Johnny Hockey's mind. I'd only they could get iggy back too for the old guy retirement tour.

jagr is inhuman. i seriously dont know how it's even physically possible to play in a sport as physically demanding/punishing as hockey for as long as he has, let alone continue to perform.

Iginla was invisible in Colorado. Even on a bad team he looks like he's about cooked unless someone wants to sign him for $1M to play 4th line minutes

Jagr is great and Calgary is in the right position to sign him, but drat, that's quite a bit of money for a 45-year-old even if it is Jagr.

I don't find it hard to believe that he was asking for 5.5 million like he got last year (if he hit his bonuses, whatever they were). I'm sure a bunch of teams wanted him for 2 million and he thought he'd rather go home and bang supermodels and play hockey in his hometown rink.

He's one season away from breaking the record for most games played in the NHL. Pretty sure he'd take what he can get. Then ofcourse he'll gently caress off to Czechia for the celeb life afterwards.

Unless he wants to play for a contender or specifically says he isn't interested, I'm surprised some basement team hasn't offered him whatever he wants with the intention of moving him for futures at the deadline.

Yeah, Jagr should have already taken his victory lap for the Penguins a couple years ago, and it pretty much can't happen this year until the trade deadline and even then it would be a desperation move because of injuries or something. I will say this, some April or October Jagr and Bonds should get their numbers retired as close together as possible.

Iginla hit a wall real fast. He was still a 20 goal/50pt forward, for Colorado even, as recently as 2015-16.

A progression of: Age 36: 61pts (55.4% of peak) Age 37: 59 pts (53.6% of peak) Age 38: 47 pts (42.7% of peak) Age 39: 27 pts (24.5% of peak) is fairly standard for a player of his age. Most players would recognize they were done after a season like Iginla just had though. Players playing beyond 38 are so rare that there isn't really enough data to suggest exactly how they would decline but it's sharp. Most players see the writing on the wall and skip town before they're a real shadow of their former selves. Even Gretzky was done at 37. I get that Iginla wants to go out on a high and not part of the worst season by a team in modern history, but he's better off just letting go. I'm not even sure he'll be an effective contributor for Team Canada at the Olympics. ThinkTank fucked around with this message at 14:55 on Aug 23, 2017 |

Their new play-by-play guy is kinda boring. I miss Pete Weber. That reminds that Steve Mears is the Pens PBP guy this year. I suspect he'll be pretty boring as well but boring is probably still an improvement over Steiggy, though I will miss Steiggy pissing everyone off who is unfortunate enough to watch the Pens feed.
