Those sculptures aren't bronze. They're zinc, which is why they fold easily. Zinc was used primarily for cost savings, often in mass production runs. It is in almost all ways a weaker material than bronze alloys, but statues typically aren't subjected to the compression force of being dumped on their heads with their stone base bearing down on them.

When the (actual) bronze statue of Ben Franklin was knocked over in Boston, it cracked the concrete but didn't deform.

Bronze is strong, but brittle. When bronze statues are hit with enough force, they tend to break or shatter rather than bend/tear like zinc.

All that said, a good life-size bronze casting should have walls between 3/8" and 1/2" thick. Judging by the photographs, that zinc Confederate statue has extremely thin walls.
