Mavs are never going to have a long term defensive big man. I can't imagine he returns next offseason.

Given the surfeit of ok big men in the league right now and the near-complete dearth of cap space next summer I find it very difficult to imagine that Noel is going to get a big payday next year unless he takes a gigantic step forward.

He turned it down probably because, like George Hill, he was expecting a max after last offseason's stupidity. Either his agent pushed him to wait or he himself doesn't know how the market works.

Nerlens Noel asked Mavs for max. Offer was pulled soon thereafter, per sources. https://t.co/VVEOfhWkgt From local beat writer whose plugged in.

What if Ainge and Gilbert want this deal to fall apart. What if Ainge got tired of complaints that he just hoards assets and never trades for a star? What if Gilbert wanted to be able to say he tried finding a team for Kyrie? So they met in secret and came up with a deal they knew would fail

A bit surprised no one has bit on Shabazz Mohammed yet. Sort of looks like guys on Minnesota are trying to get him to sign back on a minimum. I'd like to see him back, I think he'd still get minutes, and Thibs seemed to trust him despite him being the anti-Thibs player.

"Nerlens Noel was offered and declined a four-year, $70 million contract by Mark Cuban and the Dallas Mavericks on July 1, former agent Happy Walters confirmed to SB Nation. The terms of the deal was first reported by ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski. “Mark and Rick [Carlisle] and Donnie [Nelson] definitely tried to make something work,” Walters told SB Nation. “They liked Nerlens and they made a really solid offer early in the process.” Walters also tweeted the terms of the deal in response to ESPN’s Chris Haynes, who described it as “non-existent” in his report. On Saturday, Noel signed a one-year, $4.1 million qualifying offer, a deal that will make him an unrestricted free agent in 2018. It comes four days after firing Walters and signing Rich Paul of Klutch Sports. Paul did not immediately respond to a request for comment. Noel never revisited the initial four-year deal that was declined in early July, according to Cuban, which the Mavericks may have still honored if Noel had a change of heart. '[It’s] hard to say,' Cuban told SB Nation. 'We never got there.'" https://www.sbnation.com/2017/8/26/16209330/nerlens-noel-agent-happy-walters-mark-cuban-mavericks-free-agency I just want my favorite team to have a long term defensive big man again. I'd even be happy with a player like prime Mavs Dampier. What nobody has realized yet is this is going to lead to the Mavs chasing Boogie next summer, failing, and missing out on Noel who signed with another team. Cuban should have let Dirk keep his larger deal this offseason.

I want the trade to be revoked just so we could get a season of salty IT and Kyrie poo poo-talking their local press.

# ? Aug 27, 2017 00:18 |

The Trade won't get voided, Ainge is just probably gonna have to give up another first rounder. Probably Boston's own or something. There is no way they can void the trade. They would then both have to find separate trade partners for IT, and Kyrie, and the market would be mostly torched for getting near fair value, because teams know that you absolutely have to trade him ASAP.
