She was always trying to convince me that no, it was super delicious, just like cookies, I should try it! Even at the tender age of six, I was pretty sure this was a trick. Sometimes I look back and wonder if her parents just didn't feed her. You really need to be careful with that indiscriminate licking before it spirals out of control.

Ah, back to hospital again tomorrow which means more great meals like the following. "egg salad" "chilli con carne" Some sort of bolognese, I don't even remember Omlette with beans Every time I go in for a week they send a dietitian to come see why I keep sending the food back. What a loving mystery.

Is it actually safe to have rare chicken if you know everything about the bird? Like you raised it yourself, called it Dave and made sure it ate only the finest corn/worms/whatever, kept it healthy and all that jazz would it be OK to undercook it?

No salmonella is because of the lovely farming techniques people use there's nothing inherently dangerous about raw chicken, it just looks and probably tastes disgusting. Also there's no way those people are using chickens they've reared themselves so yeah.

Raw chicken is slimy and thoroughly unpleasant, even if you know it's safe. Just because medium rare makes sense with beef doesn't mean it translates well to other meats.

According to the CDC, salmonella naturally lives in chicken and duck intestines.

I don't know exactly how chicken becomes a vector for salmonella, but I assume it's due to contamination and not some inherent chicken problem, so as long as it was prepared in a very clean environment...? I think it just sounds loving gross; I hate looking at raw chicken, let alone eating it. e: ^^^ whoops, never mind my salmonella stupidity.

These are all beating a dead horse. The medium rare chicken strips joke got attention a year or so ago. I eat beef extremely rare and have taken one bite of undercooked chicken at a restaurant and gagged. No one is eating that poo poo.

Turtles also can transmit salmonella, so make sure to always wash your hands after holding one.

Regarding that whole medium rare chicken thing, it's actually real. As long as it's cooked to 165°F, you're safe. Apparently, right at 165°F, there is still a SMALL strip of pink on the inside, but it would still be safe to eat.
