Not the most subtle thing, but in the new The Tick, they touched on the difference between his suit in the pilot and his suit in the second episode with a comment from Arthur on how the Tick looks different a few minutes later in-show. Additionally, the entire show feels like "little things" the series, including references to the two previous tv incarnations. I swear, if they continue utilizing the 66 Batman in any way, they need to call Peter Serafinowicz first. He sounds so sincere and close to Adam West.

A feeling I always have watching Who Framed Roger Rabbit is this - Judge Doom is out of sync with the rest of Toon Town. The important part of timing being integral to a toon's performance, is that other toons are doing their thing to make the punchline stick. The difference between Doom Dropping a Piano on Eddie's brother and Tweety's shtick is intent. Tweety wasn't just being "funny". He was actually helping Eddie - Eddie had nowhere to go from that pole. He would have hung there until exhaustion set in and fallen eventually anyway, so Tweety caused his descent to continue. Then,. as he comes across Mickey and Bugs skydiving he mimics their poses and slows his descent - without their "spare tyre" gag Eddie would have continued at terminal velocity - and the trampoline guy wouldn't have got to him in time for the punchline to land, and Eddie to therefore land safely. They are all in sync with each other's gags - they all work together to stop an accident from becoming a tragedy, likely entirely on instinct. If Doom was in sync with ToonTown, Eddie's brother wouldn't have died. Someone would have wandered by with a comically small umbrella or something. (Unless Eddie's brother didn't actually die in Toon Town, I cannot remember that detail well.)

Do you surmise that it may then be impossible to die in Toon Town (except at the hands of a renegade toon)? If you tried to kill yourself in Toon Town would every gun just shoot out one of those *bang* flags, and every noose turn into a hilarious rubber noose like in the Will Smith magnum opus Wild Wild West?

Roger specifically says that it's a Toon's job to make people laugh, so this makes sense. Even the Weasels make you laugh. You could say they don't do it on purpose, but, if what you are saying is true, they can't help it. Doom is the anti-toon. A prequel graphic novel would be interesting to see how Doom became what he / it was. As long as it was in the movie's continuity and not the original story the movie was based on.

Something I always like in cartoons is when a character gets hyper-focused enough, mainly happens when enraged, to start using cartoon physics intentionally, like in the Garbage Day episode of Rocko's Modern Life - most of the episode just happens to him, Spunky gets cubed in the trash compactor, haha, the usual gags - then the dog that keeps escaping from the lab starts bullying him, and after a bit. Rocko just snaps. He takes the cube inside with a sour expression, rips Spunky off the top layer, uses a rolling pin to reshape him then shoves an airpump in his mouth to reinflate him, and it's of course funny, but the way he moves while doing it. He's so sick of all this poo poo it ends up looking more badass than funny, it's like "Finally, it happened. Rocko's mood has exploded again, and it is awesome.".

That's why its said that dropping a piano/anvil on someone's head is a real toon way to kill someone. An immature toon might drop something heavy on a real person's head to be funny. I mean, it's funny when it lands on a toons head, so it'll be funny when I do it to a real person. .... Whoops, real people don't shake it off as easily or as funnily. A disgruntled toon might also kill someone the same way, thinking "hey how do you like having heavy poo poo dropped on your head all day eh? Not so funny now motherfucker."

Not even Bob Hoskins' death slowed them down, they just went "Welp, I guess we'll have a CGI ghost Eddie Valiant now!" and kept rolling along. The first idea for a sequel was Roger & co going off to fight the Nazis in WW2 and Speilberg's reaction was "Uhhhhh guys I just did this thing called Schindler's List I can't really be involved in a wacky comedy Nazi film right now ..."  Someone took that script and removed all the war references and instead made it a prequel about Roger's rise to fame on Broadway and the even wrote a bunch of songs for that and someone even recorded one. Also there was a sequel of sorts. It's called Bonkers and it was part of the Disney Afternoon lineup. It's a whole series about a washed up toon star that becomes a cop and has a human partner that works the border beat between Toon Town and the real world. Disney and WB both insisted that the other not have more screen time in Roger Rabbit. That's why Bugs/Mickey and Donald/Daffy have shared scenes. It was the easiest way to ensure a tie.

Yeah, it was amazing. Even if they could get the rights to make another one today, there's no way Disney would let Donald use racial slurs. It was shocking, but it really made the scene impactful and I don't think the underlying metaphor of segregation in the entertainment industry would have worked nearly as well without it
