Holy poo poo that Snowspeeder is good. If the Red 5 and Wall-E didn't edge it out by a hair it might be my favorite set. So many weird build techniques, I'm amazed it all comes together so well. It's crazy how well every seam pushes together what would normally be noticeable gaps into something that looks almost seamless. Also, I can't think of a set with a cooler cockpit. The amount of detail in there is rad. Great technic functions too. My only gripes are that the front end being held together by mixel ball joints and being surrounded by little greebles makes it feel unstable and you can't pick it up from there. In general the thing is just really hard to pick up actually. It's barely swooshable. Also, I am not even normally one to bitch about stickers, but the ones on the canopy and air intakes were a nightmare.

So I finished my Lepin Koenigsegg One:1 today. So obviously this isn't an official Lego model. It seems Lepin is now looking at people's MOCs on EuroBricks and either buying, or let's be honest straight up stealing their designs. The polish of official Lego instructions/building techniques was definitely a frustrating part of the build and by the end I just wanted it to be done. I'm extremely happy how it turned out and it's a great model, just probably the most difficult Lego I've ever put together. On to the pics! Both doors and the rear hatch open by the use of gears, so that's kinda cool Here's some pics next to my Lepin Porsche for size comparision

Nice, one of the Lego store employee said the Millennium Falcon box is so big they can only fit one on the shelf at this store. Also, I finally caved and bought the Ninjago City. duz fucked around with this message at 00:28 on Sep 3, 2017 |

Man, I'm really on the fence about the Falcon. I was in my dark ages when the first UCS Falcon came out. I want the new one quite a bit, but that price puts a big damper on it. I'm basically getting double pay for July and August. I can comfortably afford it, but we're planning a Disneyworld trip in spring, I have new brakes and tires to get, and I'm considering a PC upgrade in the near-ish future. I don't even have room to display half my modulars, let alone this thing. Plus, there's Ninjago City and the Fishing Store. I'm sure it'll be around a couple years at a bare minimum, but it probably won't ever get a substantial discount; I'm pretty sure I got my UCS Death Star II at 50% off at the end of its production. And the instant it ever gets discontinued, the speculators will get every last one in a matter of an hour.

I do wonder if the original UCS Falcon will come down in price significantly in the face of this one?

The fishing store looks rad but doesn't seem to fit in with the other big modular buildings. Like the rest of them literally all connect.

I'm in kind of the same boat. I've got several paychecks coming in that I won't be in a position to spend any of, but with that money I could pay off the remainder of my student loans or get a car. And I don't have any roommates at all for something that big, so it would be super irresponsible. But god drat, does it look nice.

It kinda wouldn't work in a modular setting in my opinion, without a redesign. Could a beachy, dilapidated fishing store reside at the end of a populated street? Maybe. Sure. But not the way it is oriented and surrounded.

Looked up the light brick site and had a couple of questions. Does the switch have an always on option? Some of the flashers are cool but I wouldn't want them to flash all the time. It mentions adhesive strips but I wouldn't want to glue things to the bricks. Is that avoidable? I thought an installation video I saw showed that you had to modify or cut some bricks. Is that the case because I want to leave everything as intact as possible.

Marmaduke! posted:I ordered the Haunted Mansion (plus green light-up bricks!) the other day, so I find this post very encouraging I have most of the modulars, and the haunted mansion is still my favorite. I've seen pictures where people have redesigned it as a modular, and those are pretty cool, but I prefer it as a standalone. In fact, it's almost time to bring it down and put it on display for the fall.

Lego in Hawaii are 20% more than retail. Or at least they are at Kmart. Haven't been to Walmart yet. Don't think there are other places on this island that would sell them. Kauai.

mik posted:Is the Lepin Porsche faithful enough that you could use the official Lego PDF instructions with the Lepin parts? The Lepin or Decool Porsche is an identical copy of the Lego one. This one just happened to be a one off MOC that they copied so the instructions were based off a build a regular person did instead of an actual Lego set.

Here's a very early WIP I started tonight. Some legs for a robot I'm working on. I'm not sure how to incorporate black well into other colors. I think the upper part is going to be green/gray with some exposed areas of black so it's not just legs. Still figuring out how to make it not awkward looking. I'm kind of using the Gekkos from MGS4 as loose inspiration.

For less than the price of the UCS Falcon I bought a canoe. A boat was literally cheaper than a Lego set. A boat I can use to go places and do things, rather than just sit on my shelf after a weekend of hand cramps. I mean, it's really nice looking but this is starting to get out of hand.
