Our sweet old stray Archie is being taken to the vet currently, to be put to sleep. The last couple of weeks he had seemed to be doing well, he was gaining wait and seemed alert and curious, got on well with our others, but he started throwing up everything he ate in the last couple of days and this evening was utterly lethargic. It'd be cruel to let him degenerate so our original plan to take him there in the morning had to be moved up. He was a sweet and handsome old boy with the pointiest face, and it was an honor to be able to live with him for the two and a half weeks we had. But God do I wish we'd managed to have him longer, so he could enjoy a nice lazy retirement for a couple of years, after living rough on the streets. Hug your beasties

As someone who works in veterinary specialty medicine, I recommend pet insurance. I have it on my own cats. Just do your research first and make sure you know what your plan will and will not cover.

Plus, I've got this rad scoop next to both my boxes: http://iprimio.com/home/productdetail/18 Their mobile site sucks, sorry, go to Amazon, and the sticky pad for the wall hanger fails immediately, but the scoop is exquisite. Mine knows that she'll get ignored in the morning...until the alarm goes off then its time for cuddles. Tuna, on the other hand, adores scritches, lounging around in bed next to me (especially on top of the iPad for some reason. I can have it set aside and be giving him my full attention and he'll still wander over and lie on top of it, I've been thinking about getting him a big piece of plexiglass or something), and licking me, but he does not like proper cuddling or being in my lap/on top of me. I love him very much but I really wish he were a cuddler.

Is there an update to the pet nutrition thread that doesn't require archives? I recently took in a very chill cat that a friend had to give up (his fiance brought her two cats from overseas and the three do NOT get along at all). Jerome is 6 and enjoys chin scratches but not belly rubs

My blackkitten (she's like 18 months, so maybe a moody teen developmentally) technically enjoys belly rubs, but she's under the distinct impression that if I'm touching her belly I want to play. Tummy-related slapfights are fun, she enjoys them!

I found the two perfect kittens that I wanted to adopt, the foster parent of them recommended to the shelter that they be adopted to me. Tonight however a family went behind the foster parents back to fill out the adoption paperwork and get the cats. The shelter specifically said though that the foster parent gets the say in who gets the cats, they were suppose to go to me per the shelters own policy. I'm so unbelievably pissed about this. gently caress that shelter. They went to a family with kids which the kittens were uncomfortable and scared around according to the foster parent.

Man, that sucks for those poor kittens. I hope for the best, but in my experience these kinds of situations end with the cats either running away or being thrown away. Poor little bastards.

Poor little bastards. Oh come on, that's a bit extreme. They'll probably have a stressful week while the kids learn boundaries, then settle down. Or one of the kids will get their precious little face scratched and the kittens will go back up for adoption. They'd have been better with you, but cats tend to find a way of making it work. There aren't many children who'd be more of a dick to a kitten than my cats are to each other. Or as much a dick as I am to them.

GreyjoyBastard posted:Black cats best cats. Oh yeah, we've had her for awhile. She showed up on my back upper balcony one night. So I fed her tuna. She didn't come back right away (weird?). I figured out because the neighbor, a crazy old guy had adopted her and took her to the vet. But his landlord sold his building and he's gone now, so he left Charlotte with us. My gf (who knows, we're at the 4year point and not really getting along...) Is intensely allergic. Gives hives/raised bumps and a lot of sneezing from touching her. But no anaphylaxis or respiratory distress, so she should touch it out. My gf actually spent good money on a heated cat house for Charlotte and she loves it. And she has one basket in the shade, one basket in the sun, and the neighbors porch below for some real shade. And of course if it's extra cold or stormy out we invite her in, but most of the time she's just like screw it, feed me. I grew up with cats but still could keep on the general care. Thanks for recommending vet. I'd like a medicine that's mutipurpose. Like for fleas, ticks, worms, etc. Frontline? Advantage II? My gf bought the last flea treatment. Seemed to work okay. The kind where you squeeze the liquid onto the cat's shoulder blades. I generally distract her with wet food. I know it's supposed to get down to the skin, and I think Charlotte does too. She kind of avoids but eventually gives into me trying to rub that stuff all the way in (so it's not just on her fur). But yeah this relationship feels on the skids. If it ends, next one will not be cat allergic!! Here's pictures to offset my long annoying post! Chillin Girlfriend doesn't know poo poo about cats. Thought Charlotte would wear this without protest. I don't understand the process of it taking a few seconds to operate the can opener to give me my wet food!! I'm starving!! Also chillin A day in the life (Note the clawed to hell screen. Usually stretching out and clawing as I'm opening a can of food...

What's the consensus on flushable litter? The box lives right next to my toilet already so this seems like a too-easy-to-be-true kind of thing.

Corn and sawdust probably can be, but you'll need to scrub your toilet more often. I haven't had any issues flushing corn or sawdust long-term.

I use world's best, it's flushable, but that seemed like a huge waste of water so I got a litter genie instead and just empty it every 1-2 weeks when the bag fills up. Much less annoying than indivudal poo bags every time you scoop and no smell escapes.

Sometimes it will stop up (because I put too much in at a time) but after a 2nd flush, it goes down. Never had to pull out the plunger or anything. (Our plumbing is connected to a sewer not a septic tank, not sure if there would be a difference).

I tried to put a collar with a bell on my older originally-semiferal kitty (he got let outside for an hour at a time back then and was well on his way to annihilating the regional lizard population in a mosquito zone). He raced around the house trying to get away from the bell until he was tuckered enough out for me to remove the collar. I can only imagine trying to give a mostly currently feral cat an adorable jacket. Edit: we have an everything rub I'll check and see what it is but advantage 2 sounds familiar

Hey PI my dumb cat is super constipated. The vet has already given him an enema once and we spike his food with a quarter teaspoon of Miralax every morning but he still gets poop stuck in his butt, dumb cat. We're feeding him like 90% grain free wet food with like half a handful of grain free dry food in the evening because he loving loves that poo poo, otherwise everything is wet. Next step is maybe getting one of those cat fountains? Because maybe he isn't drinking enough water? God drat it. Anyway does anyone have any success stories with rocking cat fountains that cats love? And/or any other good ideas on how to keep my cat pooping on the reg?

My cat has been having diarrhea since Saturday evening. When she poops I can hear her stomach grumble and she meows while trying really hard to get it out. I've had her for 11 months now and this is the first time I've seen her like that. I didn't see any foreign object in the stool, just that it's more like a syrup than solid. Also her behavior hasn't really changed. She still eats and bugs me to play with her. I've been feeding her the same food for the last 6-7 months so I don't think that's the cause. Her main diet is wet canned food, but I have dry food on the side as well as bowl of water. Our vet is closed today so I will have to wait until tomorrow to take her in. I took her food away and only left the water bowl for her since last night, I read online that it may help but I don't know. I don't know if there's anything else I can do for today besides waiting. My brother told me I'm overreacting and that she will recover eventually. I'm just frustrated that I can't think of what could be the cause because it happened so suddenly.
