Ready for the fashy circle jerk
Spend SWC on the mine layer variation. Starting the game with a mine already deployed is worth it. Your opponent won't know which one is a zero and which one will blow up in their face.

I'm not sure you need MSV on your boarding shotgun. The +6 range mod is probably enough against camo. I'd like to take it on mimetism or camo since it is more generally useful. Mobile Brigada's flamethrower and the mined are also a good backup against mimetism or camo.

Something like this, maybe:

Nomads

MOBILE BRIGADA MULTI Rifle + Light Flamethrower / Pistol, Knife. (0 | 39)
ALGUACIL Combi Rifle / Pistol, Knife. (0 | 10)

ALGUACIL Combi Rifle / Pistol, Knife. (0 | 10)
ZERO (Minelayer) Combi Rifle, Antipersonnel Mines / Pistol, Knife. (0.5 | 19)
REVEREND HEALER Boarding Shotgun, Nanopulser / Pistol, EXP CCW. (0 | 32)

Moira might be better than the healer, depends on if you prefer getting people back up or slightly better shooting modifiers.

I recommend picking up some more regulars than that, or proxying fusiliers. I love the WIP 13 specialists.

Hi! Sorry to derail the thread, I just spent 7 hours painting in anticipation for a local tournament and I'm pretty proud of how decent I'm getting at it. Here's some USArianda models with the obligatory Azra'il/Blackjack proxy.

The today crew all together,

The Blackjack,

Some Marauders

Marauders and 6th Parachutist

And assorted Maverick poses:

I'm thinking I need to work a bit on their pants, but I'm happy for now. Apart from basing I think I'm done with these folks because there's more models on the docket for later. Have a good evening goons.

I'd definitely use a zero since mines will be unusually strong.

The Zero Minelayer profile is amazing. Hell at 120SWC you could take two.

Another suggestion would be the Moran Masai, because your opponent will hate having to deal with 2 Koalas + Mimetism at that point level.

NEW ITS is UP

some cool stuff:

ALL Tags get Fatality L1.
Some missions have Armourd Vanguard. TAGs gain Forward Deployment L1.
PanO gets 3 extra lists they can use which are new and have smoke mercs with linkable Nisse.
CA gets Bit & Kiss.
Kidnapping replaces Retroengineering.
-2 Orders CMD Token use doesn't effect Single Combat Groups.
Some Wotan missions are in, like Hunting Party & Power Pack.
Designated Target rules mean you can slot HVTs.

Hmm. Fatality for all TAGs can make some loadouts very interesting. The HRMC-bearing mechs spitting out tons of STR 16 fire, for instance.

Besides, it makes sense that a giant bot would have heavier-duty versions of infantry weapons instead of exact copies.

So a friend and I got a deal for some infinity figures. $175 got us the red veil, ice storm starters, Tohaa, Aleph 300 point boxes, the rulebooks+human sphere, some promo figures (I think? One says Druze variant), and the classified deck. Guy said he couldn't get into it and the boxes have barely been touched.

So what kinds of armies can we cobble together from these boxes? What factions would you say look cohesive enough if mashed together as proxies? I'm laughing at the thought that we're going to spend more on figure cases for these things than the models actually cost. :haw:

Ilor
Feb 2, 2008

That's a crit.
With that stuff you'll be able to play with pretty much any faction in the game but Ariadna and Combined Army. You'll be able to make a decent start at a number of sectorials as well (I'm thinking ISS and Hassassin Bahram in particular). That's a hell of a haul, dude.

As far as proxies go, Nomad Alguacils, Haqqislam Ghulam, and Yu Jing Zhanshi all look sort of similar enough to serve well as proxies. Tiger Soldiers (Yu Jing) and Hellcats (Nomads) look similar enough to make good proxies. The YJ heavy infantry from Red Veil and the PanO heavy infantry from Icestorm are different stylistically, but will get the point across that "this dude is HI." There's not really any good analog for the Al'Fasid from Red Veil in the other armies, although you might be able to use him to proxy something like a Gecko (Nomad mini-TAG). The Tuareg sniper from Red Veil can stand in for pretty much any light infantry sniper in the game. The tac-bow ninja from Red Veil could easily stand in for any other faction's sneaky-sneaky troop (I'm thinking Nomad Spectr or the like).

Pierzak
Oct 30, 2010
I'd say play around and see which factions appeal to you the most with their aesthetics or playstyle, and then swap/sell the others to expand your chosen factions.

And yeah, the Druze Hacker is a limited preorder promo, an all-around beautiful mini, and a great proxy for an Authorized Bounty Hunter.

Thanks for the suggestions! I'll have to look around because the names of things are really specific but all I had prior to this was the PanO half of ice storm, Miyamoto's double models, the motorcycle bootleg lady, and the fat noodle dude. I used to proxy stuff from 40k into general "heavy/light infantry" and Tau crisis suits were TAGs but now I can have more sleek looking infantry that fit better with the aesthetic.

My friend and I decided to split the armies such that I get the Aleph, PanO, and Haqq parts. I think the Haqq and PanO have enough humanoid/robot counterparts they should work. Aleph looks vaguely similar but they're already a starter force so can probably just be their own thing. I just wanted the motorcycle to pair with the bootleg motorcycle. I'll forward the suggestions to my friend. He's really into the ninja and likes the ultimate weeb possibilities offered by Nomads and YJ.

Akschually :goonsay: the official rules say that unit and weapon must match if possible (if the given loadout has a currently-available model), but in practice 99% of the events will have some kind of relaxed requirements like "unit must match, weapon doesn't have to" or allow certain number or % of proxies. Also, CCW-only models are popular stand-ins for whatever profile is missing or needs more copies at a given time (also legal IIRC). One thing that sticks is the "CB minis only" requirement, but that's only for State-EmpireCB-sponsored events and even then I've seen people bring a spare CB proxy just in case theirs gets rejected and play the whole tournament unmolested.

Infinity's pretty lenient on proxies is what I'm saying v:shobon:v unless you proxy stuff in a Rube Goldbergesque combination that makes the opponent's eyes glaze over halfway through your list, you should be OK. As for tournaments, just ask an organizer in advance.

ed: Also, "conversions by painting" are a thing. I've seen people paint Ghulams in Ariadna camo to get more Metro models (yeah that was back in 2ed) and other stuff like that.

It depends on the event. When selnaric decided to drop a full platoon of Volunteers on me (a 31-order list), the only CB minis in his army were his WarCor and Isobel MacGregor. The rest were Cadians, because it's what he had. Yeah, it was an "official" ITS event (part of our Escalation League), but nobody gave a gently caress about strict CB-only proxies, especially if it enabled him to throw down such a rad gimmick list.
